Hey all...


I was going to tackle my front wheel bearings this weekend (or next). What am I going to need...?

I assume the Front Inner and Outer Bearings...but a wheel seal?

Flat head drift to remove the old races, and a large socket to go over the new races when you pound them in.

If your seals are in good shape then you do not have to replace them but if you do not know then get new ones.

To pound out and pound in the bearing races, I use a brass drift. It's basically a brass punch which will deform upon impact instead of damaging the race.

Brass Drift Set

Tap-tap on one side, tap-tap on the other side. Do this continuously until the old race falls out. Do the same thing to install the new race. The drift will show signs of deformity but the races will be spared any harm.

Not a hard job. Just takes some patience. Some people cool the new race so it shrinks a bit and fits in better. I did this on the first bearing race, then came to the conclusion that by the time the race was half way in, it had returned to room temp and lost its "shrinkage".

I changed the seal since it was only a couple of bucks at my FLAPS.
