I have a suspect ignition switch in my teener. Haynes manual exploded view is so small it's worthless. Clymer only has proceedure for 914-6. Anybody have a good resolution exploded view of the steering column components and / or a step by step? Is the key/mechanical portion still available? I know the electrical switch still is. Does having AC complicate things?

Is it an early car or late? The later ones are pretty easy, I've taken mine apart several times. I've never done an early one and I think they are different. He is what I know: It helps to remove the S/wheel. Look under the column, there is a the allen head bolt. Remove it and you can remove the cover plate that goes around the switch/lock. You can remove the lock cylinder and then remove the small slotted screw that acts as a set screw for the ig. switch. The switch slides out pretty easy. I'm doing this from memory but I know most of the above is right. It's about a 4-5 on a scale of 10. |
