How about a forum that deals with what parts from different makes and models will work on the 914. Such as brakes, suspensions, lights, springs, wheels, switches, relays, ect. How many VW parts can be used? What parts from other Porsche, BMW, Volvo, and other european cars will work. What has to be reworked to make it work.

There is one of these for the Jaguar people. It is a database. People submit their findings and someone updates the database.

They have recently made it interactive, but it used to be just line by line sorted by category. You just scrolled down untill you found the part you wanted, and it listed the original, the replacement, where to get it, what years and models it was used on, how it differed, why it was better (or not), and the part numbers.

This can also be used to list mods - for example 911/Volvo/BMW calipers and the relevant part numbers and other info.

You just need someone willing to maintain it, and people to submit the info.

Example:

System: Cooling System
Part name: Heater Valve
Jaguar part#: C41051
Cross reference: Pep boys/Factory Air 74612
Vendor: Major parts chains
Market: All Markets
Submitted by: Larry Lee
Date submitted: 2000-06-01 00:00:00
Date updated: 2002-10-01 21:22:58
Models: XJ S1,XJ-S,XJ S2,XJ S3
Notes: plastic valve instead of factory metal
