Anyone have any good pics or info on how the 914 GT headlight mechanism (with the cable release) worked? I'd like to come up with something similar for my car if it's not too difficult. I have an idea of how I could fabricate the lift mechanism - I just wonder how they fastened back down when closed.
Thanks in advance for any help! |

Ok, drove home quick over lunch, snapped some pictures. lol, you didn't have to take your lunch break for this man!!!...but greatly appreciated for sure Cams are good for that... Run the cable around a wheel with the right shape and pivot so it pulls with power first, then faster once past the point where the shocks aren't resisting as much to shorten the throw. Cool stuff! I love seeing new projects. kinda like a compound bow (and arrow lol) works?...which sucks because I understand the concept of using the pulley's but have never actually seen one long enough to understand how much and what shapes of pulleys affect it...so I think I'm going to mount the lights and shocks and see if I even need to make it easier or not... I know for sure I want the shock to exert an equal or average force on the light throughout the lifting (to make the pull of the cable somewhat consistent)...to do it, I will measure in degrees using a protractor or something to find the exact mid point during the lifting...then mount the shock exactly perpindicular that when the light is half way open...and then erase everything I said because gravity has a lot to do with it... or I can just mount it at a wee bit less of an angle than the one shown in the pics...tac it into place until it works like a charm and then finish the welds... and then I can actually go buy a welder because I don't have one and have never done it and I can learn to weld after I finish my homework after soccer practice!!! haha don't expect any results soon...I think it might take a while because I have little time and it's cold outside and my garage sucks...will post when I'm ready ahh suggestions? |
