My 914 seat belt retractors don't work very well. I'd like to keep the retractable function. Does anyone repair the retractors? The belts and the rest of the harware seem okay.
Does anyone know anything about the eBay item # 330088556824 belts? Mel |

I've tried retensioning. It didn't work. I'm convinced that 'lazy' seatbelts are caused by two factors:
1) corrosion/rusting of the chrome guide that sticks out the top and the top pivot/attachment guide by the coat hook. I see so many of those with peeling chrome and therefore lots of sharp edges to 'grab' the belt webbing. 2) Frayed belt webbing. there are companies out there that will put new webbing on your old belts. They even match the original stitching and sew on the old tags. Frayed webbing is a safety concern and any seat belt manufacturer will tell you that. Here's a picture of the 944 belts with the big pin knocked off, the resulting hole tapped, and the original 914 pointy pin threaded in. ![]() And here's how they look in the car. Very original. ![]() |
