What is the racing trick to keep these sucker tight???
Is it just part of weekly maintenance??? Or, is there a fabbed kit out there to put in longer bolts and a nylon nut on the back? Or, how about drilling out the heads and wiring them in somehow????? Rich |

QUOTE(r_towle @ Nov 20 2003, 06:40 AM) What is the racing trick to keep these sucker tight??? ... Or, how about drilling out the heads and wiring them in somehow????? yes, new washers, every time. torque the fasterners to spec, 33 lbs/ft IIRC. i drill them for safety wire, no 'somehow' to it, really. i wire them in pairs. standard 0,032" safety wire twisted with safety wire pliers. hit the side of the head with a small grindstone in a Dremel, then use a 1/16" cobalt bit in a drill press; use plenty of cutting oil, NBD. i like to re-torque the inboard ends after a week of road use and then wire them, the outboard ends get it before installation. some use a half-height Nylock nut on "too long" bolts; i've never done that but i'm sure it'd work. |
