In my quest to get better idle I purchased the correct year CHT (017 for the '73 2.0) from WORLD member kkid. Thank you. I also purchased a Brad Mayuer spacer and rigged up a 270 ohm resistor. My idle symptoms with the 012 CHT were that it would idle cold at 1600 rpm for about 3 minutes then drop like a rock as the AAR closed, then die. I could keep it going by feathering the pedal but stop signs were always an adventure. Once warm, it would stay around 900.
I just installed my new setup and it idles so much better. Rpm is about 1500 then slowly comes down to about 1100. I haven't driven it yet. Once I get it good and warm I'll get a better idea of where to set the idle. Then back to the mechanic for a CO analysis. It smells richer now.
I know there have been some posts about the 012 CHT as a good replacement for the '73 2.0 and it may be that if I had put the spacer on that, there would be the same improvement. I didn't want to experiment as this thing was a b**ch to install. I used the "grind the corner of an extension" method along with a deep socket 13mm and it really didn't fit in there well with the MPS and all. It was not really kind to the CHT wire. Probably would have worked if I didn't have the spacer. Anyways, I'll report if there's other idle changes. Right now I'm stoked and going for a ride. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)
