alright guys, lots of sun, pics and video (no sound (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) ) this weekend ...
i got down there saturday morning just to hear that brad/scott were pretty much ready to give up and drive home! Laguna Seca has a noise-limit of 92db at the race-track and everybody was scrambling to meet those requirements. apparently scott and brad had spent all friday trying to get the car down under 92db, without luck. they had been black-flagged 5 times and had not been able to finish a session. so we stuck our heads together and did some creative thinking. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) what we came up with what would become formally be known as "The Fluffy Pillow Mobile" for the rest of the weekend: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093234915.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093234951.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093234974.jpg) basically, we just got some aluminium sheet-metal and made "stacks" around the air-cleaners, then filled the stacks with the guts of a cheap-o pillow from k-mart! then we added a stock banana muffler. that required to weld in some extensions so the muffler would clear the custom tranny cover. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235111.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235130.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235156.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235351.jpg) voila! now make it look purdy ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235180.jpg) get the wheels torqued down and she's ready for another run. when we fired her up she almost sounded like a stock 2.0L, not like a 3.2L beast (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235311.jpg) MOVIE: off to grid ... (4.3 MB, AVI, no sound) it worked! no black-flags anymore and we went out for our first complete session of the weekend. the car was running good and we somehow managed to get (overall) grid-position 7 in the qualifying race. there were only 5 cars total in our class (GT-3) so each session was compiled of quite a interesting mix of different cars ... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235409.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235427.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235454.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235470.jpg) then on to the final race, we're #2 in our class and #7 overall ... (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235495.jpg) (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-11-1093235556.jpg) MOVIE: on the main straight ... (2.3 MB, AVI, no sound, blurry) "Fluffy" managed to get 2nd place in our class! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) Andy |
