I have several hi-torque starters laying around. I know that some were broken and some worked. They all look the same and I cannot figure out which one works. I hooked the ground up to the - side of the battery and the area on the starter where the ignition wire hooks to the + side of the battery. All of the batteries shoot the gear out but none spins. I checked with 2 different batteries and both have 12+volts.

Is this a reasonable test? Should the starter spin under these circumstances?

I was going to say that I am a bit of an electrical idiot however I realized that it would be better put to say that I am an automotive idiot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
