So I bought a V8 conv. car that needs quite a bit of work. I want to do it right, which means a bit of $$ that I will not have for a while. I started a new job which is in my field of study, but a slight decrease in pay with no overtime opportunity until the 1st of the year.

Anyway, the relay board was removed and the main harness end hacked off and wired to run the V8. I've stripped all the V8 stuff out of the car to evaluate it, most of it needing to be replaced. However, I have a strong 1.7 sitting in the garage from my last 914. My thought was to throw it in the car so I can drive it while I accumulate parts over the next year. It will be a carbed engine, so my question is do I need the relay board to run it? Does the relay board control anything other than engine?
