Where to mount the 3.2 ECU/DME

Resale values with a subi, v8, shalom, fiberglass flairs, etc.
Etc.

I will express an opinion based on my 35 years of 914 experience just to get shot down by some person that might have limited or no experience. I try to look at there signatures and amount of posts to get an idea of there experience. Do they own a shop? Are they making six comments but only own a 4?

Lots of people don't like watercooled cars, so what? Lots of other people do, so I'm good. Opinions, assholes, the internet is overflowing and that's not going to change. If you don't like people poking at your stuff in public then keep it private and in the garage, don't show it to anyone. If someone makes stupid comments then laugh at them and thank them, because they've identified themselves as idiots and who cares what idiots think? Do you? Then I have to ask, why?

The intention is not to cause drama or hate.

In fact with out the ability to observe and criticize or praise someone's efforts we really go nowhere. Innovation is most likely to happen in a idea rich environment with free exchange of ideas.

That's not how innovation happens.

Here's the difference:

Anybody can have an idea.

A plan takes and idea and makes it real. True..it doesn't happen in a vacuum. The best innovators don't give a rat's ass about what others think.

I think it's an assumption that a forum or group of people who have the same interest are all nice and smoozy with each other....not the case; especially here at the world. In my 10 years here I have seen cars as well as people ripped apart...sometimes for no openly apparent reason. Myself included. It is what it is.

We have lurkers, opportunists and haters like any other internet portal. Over time you learn who likes whom; as well as the animosity that is around. It exists, I'm sure the old timers know what i'm taking about. It's not transparent.

Reality is that we are mostly a bunch of CSOBs who like a quirky German car that makes noise and handles like nothing else on the road. SOme of ours are nicer than others.

Criticism and opinions can be a good thing if given with good intent and when asked. Bashing a person or car just for the hell of it is wrong I think.

If they don't ask for your opinion, don't express it. If you have nothing nice to say don't say it.

....I notice a lot of members with lots of "comments" and "advice" about our 914s...yet some don't even own one or the one they own is on stands for the last x amount of years.

What is your story with 914's?

My story?

I will take a stab at what I think you are asking.

The urge to fix things and bring them back from disrepair started when I was in grade school when I got an old dirt bike that did not run, took it apart and found the problem.

Since then I have repaired/restored numerous amphibious atv's, midsize farm tractors (mainly Allis Chalmers WD45's and small Oliver Dozers) , inboard wood boats (primarily Chris Craft but did do a few Correct Craft and Higgins mahogany boats), many differing makes and model of snowmobiles, then graduated to automobiles.

pop owned and operated a body shop in South Minneapolis
( mostly dealership work) where I found myself painting cars. One of his largest accounts was Carousel Porsche Audi. Driving all the Porsche products starting in the mid 70's was quite a kick. 911's, 928's, 924's, 944's and 914's. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind owning a older 911 or 356a (my dad had many of these over the years)
But I always had a "thing" for the 914 sick as it was. Last winter I had finished off and sold my latest project (a M29 Weasel) and saw a 914 on CL. It was a 74 Bahiia Red. Shortly after I purchased it, I found three more 914's, two 72's and a 75 with many parts and pieces.

Currently I am organizing and cataloging all the parts.....after that is completed will be welding up a rotisserie and get started on the two 74's. The hope being by the time I'm done with them, I will have learned enough to make the 74 and 75 very nice.

So that's my story.

Nailed it. Your response will probably piss someone off but........you nailed it. There are a couple of folks that get off their meds occasionally, as well! At least that's what I think causes their Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde transformations.

From time to time I think we all forget how fortunate we are to have 914world and it's knowledge bank. Everyone of us was a Humble Son of a Bitch when we joined and needed the collective knowledge that is offered here. Then a few month's later we become experts and are prone to forget "who brung us to the Dance". But let some outsider or newbie fuck with one of our own and they're going to get it from all of us. We're a large family that discuss, squabble and fight amongst ourselves but when the chips are down,........... we have a common goal AND one another's back. For more power, to keep it running on four cylinders, to avoid the whole thing melting aluminum and turning into a frickin' fireball, and to irritate the holy hell out of PCA and/or councours guys. Wave as you go by, watch their faces, it's great fun.
