I was diging through my parts and came across this seat belt buckle holder:
so I decided to install it today I pulled back my carpet and found the factory holes" Here is the belt in the holder: I have two of these, does one go on the passanger side also? I am a bit lazy to go and pull up the carpet to find out. The car is a '70 and has early interior. |

I checked out my two '70 /6's and two '71 /4 parts cars yesterday. The two '71's have the holes and one of them still had the holder in place never having been removed with the original carpet. Of the two /6's, the earliest, 0137 (01/70) did not have it. However, 0876 (03/70) did have the holes. I know of two other /6's built prior to 0876 that do not have the holes.
I'm not yet convinced these were aftermarket although it is possible. This needs more input from owners of '71 & '72 cars with the floppy belts. If they have the holes, then it must be a factory installation. I have a friend who is an original owner of a '71 /4. I will look into it when I get a chance. As I remember back in the day, the 3 point belt was still a relatively new safety item being an improvement over the lap belt. I also remember the vast majority of drivers never bothered wearing them anyway. At least half the cars on the road back then never had any restraints. Many that did were aftermarket installations. We need more input. Don |
