Removing upholstery, seats and carpets reveal this on driver's side ('70/4). Screws are original to car and went through carpet and fastened into long. Do you have a closeup of those holes? In the pic above, they look like they're punched ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) Andy |

Wohoo! I have one, too. Never noticed it before, so thanks OP! Learn something new every day.
Mine's only on the driver side ('70 -6). My passenger seat butts right up to the inner long, so I don't think the factory would've put one on that side. But what do I know... |

Andy's six tub doesn't have the holes. And neither does my '70 /4 ... Which makes me think those were probably aftermarket items installed by dealers. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) Andy |

After seeing a belt holder in the classifieds I thought I'd go out and see if I had the holes. I found the actual clip hanging by one of the four screws and the other 3 screws still in the remaining holes but not in the holder. It appears that the original screws were about #6 size oval head screws. I could not find one on the passenger side as the fixed passenger seat is tight to the long. I did not realize these were made of plastic. No part # on the holder.

Both my Euro -6 and US -4 (both MY 70) had them on the driver side only. Secured by oval head phillips screws. No holes located in the passenger side longs.

So does the fact that my /6 has holders on both sides mean it's more valuable??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) No. It means that the DAPO or dealer drilled holes in your perfectly fine longs to add two pieces of aftermarket plastic. Your car just lost at least $1k in value ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) Andy |

My 1970 914-6 (#611, February 1970 build) does not have the holes. I also wonder if this was an aftermarket item. It should show up on a parts book if it was original.

I checked out my two '70 /6's and two '71 /4 parts cars yesterday. The two '71's have the holes and one of them still had the holder in place never having been removed with the original carpet. Of the two /6's, the earliest, 0137 (01/70) did not have it. However, 0876 (03/70) did have the holes. I know of two other /6's built prior to 0876 that do not have the holes.
I'm not yet convinced these were aftermarket although it is possible. This needs more input from owners of '71 & '72 cars with the floppy belts. If they have the holes, then it must be a factory installation. I have a friend who is an original owner of a '71 /4. I will look into it when I get a chance. As I remember back in the day, the 3 point belt was still a relatively new safety item being an improvement over the lap belt. I also remember the vast majority of drivers never bothered wearing them anyway. At least half the cars on the road back then never had any restraints. Many that did were aftermarket installations. We need more input. Don |

Note: My car had carpet and the part was not there when I got my car, just the holes! Bob Burton Bob Burton |

I have 1970 6 # 1937 it has all the carpet out because it has been media blasted . It too has the 4 holes on the driver's side only. I have the plastic "holder" in a box somewhere , I think I have several. Remember the 70's had a non-movable passenger seat so the belt could not get hung up on that side. AL
