I was wondering about the helmet requirement too. OG Racing is near me to rent one for $37ish. I'd like to caravan from Fairfax/Vienna/Oakton/McLean/Arlington area.

the autocross has about 20 helmets that people can borrow - no need to rent or buy one. Bill

Sweet! ... and (IMG:style_emoticons/default/icon_bump.gif)

P. S. I created an account to register for the events and noticed that the autocross both days starts at 9:30ish with a drivers meeting. I think I'll sign up for the Sunday autocross so I can take it easy going up. Mapquest says it's a 130 mi/2hr 20 min trip from Vienna. Anyone going up from NOVA? A great route up would be starting at Greenbriar, go West to Rt 7, then Rt 9 to Charles Town then up to Hancock to Rt 70 to Cumberland. Mountains and scenery all the way!

dont forget about walking the track and tech - they both open at 8am. They have the drivers meeting at 9:30 and start right after that with the first heat.

If you dont want to arrive until at 9:30 - I can tech your car any time just let me know before hand and I can almost arrange anything.

You should pre-register with the site, and let me know so I can sign you up for which heat to run in - they usually do four heats and then you work a heat. All the corbra guys hae the third heat filled. If you run the second heat, you work the fourth, run 1st - work 3rd, run 4th - work second.

Of course if your just coming for the picnic, you dont need to be at the drivers meeting.

it would be interstate 68 to cumberland at hancock - coming west 70 and 68 splits and route 68 begins. you would stay on 68 all the way to cumberland

What about folks coming from the East?
I could meet up around Baltimore or Frederick or York for the drive west.

forgot to mention - they do not have a noise limit on exhausts, so the louder the better.

Guys coming from Frederick area, call me... I can pick up I-70 here in Washington County.

Pic-a-nic only for me, though, so if y'all are going early, never mind.

What time to meet in Frederick? I'm interested in not so early but could easily do 9am as I'm about 45 min from Frederick. I don't plan to do the Sat autocross as it would require too early a trip. I would rather caravan like we have in the past but rural routes West through VA look fun but time consuming. Mapquest says 2.5 hrs to Cumberland.

My current plan is to meet Plasket at his place Friday afternoon and head over then so that we can race the next day. Interested in joining our train?

Current plan is to drive home Sunday AM. I am guessing that Sat Night I am going to be pretty wiped out, and at best its a 3.5 hour drive from Cumberland to home.

Here's a dumb question...
is it $35 to participate in the autocross or just to attend?
we may just come down to watch and listen and get motivated to get this car off the jack stands.

I think there is no charge to watch, only to actually run in the auto-X. Picnic would be a good choice.

Zach: my plans sorta depend on what Rod/root is going to do and the question has been posed to him. My 2 options are go with you and Matt and return home Sat night (then I could spend Sunday with the fun-nazi) or go up Sat with root, camp the night and return Sun. Will let you know.

Bill - can you describe the camping accomodations. i'd rather a soft bed and hot shower but the cheap side of me is curious about camping.

As Zach wrote - we're planning on leaving Frederick area early afternoon. Route 70 traffic between here and Hagarstown is gridlock from about 2:00 pm on. Scenic route is tempting

I'm registered! Zach and I will be caravaning from roughly Frederick on Friday afternoon. Spraggi and Type47, you guys going to join us? Zach - do we want to detour south and go west via rte 50? Longer but might be more scenic than rte 70 & 68 west.

now, decide whether to camp or comfort?
