Scotty, you do some fantastic work. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif)
And in a very timely manner. If you had done my car, I would have driving for well over a year instead of still waiting for it. Of course, you would have had to endure a Heart Attack ( see my build thread) in addition to your gassing yourself.

If I had all the metal ready for Scott, I bet he could bang out all this rust repair in a week. It's just hard to know what your going to need until you get into it. especially when previous "repairs" are hidden under bondo and undercoating.

Next car is going to be taken apart and soda blasted first.

Yeah, it looks like a little thread repair is also in the cards on the suspension consol. Bug sedans could have used the pressure relief tube for sure. My 58 that is now a pickup always bulged the sliding/folding vinyl top up when the doors were closed.

Couple guys have asked about the status of the rustoration. Scott's been busy on other cars and needed new metal to work on mine. Restoration Design has really come through with replacement panels and parts and shipped in a very timely manner. Very happy with their service. Also ordered a GT stiff kit and long reinforcement so that will get welded on for the eventual 3.2 engine install. Been picking up small parts including a hockey puck horn button on ebay. Now I'll have to restore a steering wheel to properly frame the horn button. Stay tuned for passenger long, hell hole, suspension console repair.

So, with a 3.2 I guess we may need to talk about your gearing options. Rebuild starts next month (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Yeah, I have had some issues as of late, between destroying my toe that put a real damper on work for about 2 weeks, Having to re-paint Jims car and some smaller local work. I still have a couple more smaller jobs before jumping back on Mikes and Marks cars.

I will be posting a thread next week on building some strong, reusable bracing as I have 2 cars to do that will need some serious bacing. One being Mark's and another is a local one that is actually starting to fold up. In the past, I used some temporary tack welded pieces and have decided to go ahead and make something more substantial and reusable. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Was it Wes Vann that built a complete jig for his 914? and then made the jig for the suspension mounts? I think if I were to need to do several of these projects the tub platform would be neat on a rotesserie. I have a big rotesserie I made several years ago for heavier bodies that I'm sure would handle it. The only thing is raising and lowering the body to get a working heigth in each position would be a little pita but a hydralic ram on either end would cover it.

Interesting. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) I had thought about making a rotisserie jig that used the suspension points for support instead of the ends of the car. Seemed like a better way to support the car to me, the only issue is if the pass suspension console needed repair. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) What I spent the last 2 days making. I'll put it in a thread this weekend if I get a chance.

Start digging... we've got to figure this one out.

Found the guy who rebuilt/vin switched/ghetto repaired/sold me this car. His name is Tom Woodward and trades as prince-porsche on ebay. He has a shop out in Winnemucca, Nevada.

Wow... I know when I had it built it was supposed to be 2.0 with side shifter. So I guess its an early shell , dash and trans, late 1.8 motor and interior. Unless the 2.0 and trans was switched when I took it back to the place that built it when the had it for sale. Sat in their shop for almost a year so they could have swapped motor and trans? I never drove it after shop had it for sale and it was towed to my parents house. Not what I expected!

Shop drove it, crashed it, did a vin swap for one they found to replace it???

If you have a clean title and aren't up to resell the car (outside of this group)...drive and be happy. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

It is the same car they built for me. They switched the vin durring the build. It did have a tail shifter converted to side shift and 2 liter heads so I guess you could call it a 2.0 side shifter but the '71 body is definately not a '74. I was less educated than I am now (thanks to this site) so I had no idea what to look for. He does have a $50K 914 race car and 20K engine for sale on ebay so buyer beware.

The extra time it's taking has given me more time to research and check out what others has done. The "search" function on this site is more useful to me than I ever would have thought. Of course all the extra ideas take extra money but that will come in time as well.

Both Scott and Eric Shea have some things they are working on that will really add to the build.

And yes, we WILL have heat. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)
