Rear bar mounts are bolted in also. The 2.0 rear bar mounts were welded in.

What are rear bar mounts?

Rear sway bar mounts. Yours are not original, someone bolted the rear swaybar to the trunkfloor (rather crudely i might add) as shown by the rear trunk picture.

Is there a VIN number stamped into the top of the passenger side front fender, inside the trunk?

If so, does it match the 474xx VIN?
(IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif) Andy

That may be an aftermarket sway bar. I have a huge diameter rear sway bar that was made by Addco and it's bolted onto the trunk floor of one of my cars- just like that.

A photo of the mounting link area where it attaches to the shock area might show which it is. The factory uses a ball stud to attach to the shock, and Addco uses a bracket. I have one of each of the rear sway bars.

Mo pics FWIW. Trans appears to me to be a tail that has been converted, but Mike or some others will know better when I can get a good pic of it. It has the rear " extension " where the tail shift linkage goes, but all the linkage is side shift. Fog switch...no lights.......NO numbers on door jamb areas, windshield and front trunk do matchh, and front trunk does not appear to have been removed at any point. Silver dot gauges, no dash vents, early seat belts etc. etc. etc.

The factory 2.0 swaybar had a doubler spot welded above the mounts inside the rear trunk. No doublers means it's not a factory 2.0 car. Being an early tub ruled that out anyhow.

Did the vin on the top of the inner fender get ground off and painted over?

Not sure about the fender vin. It appears to have been filled over with bondo maybe, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) but I really don't know if the early cars were stamped there or not. George, Andy, Clay ????????????

And yes both sway bars are add ons.

I want to get rid of the rear swaybar anyway.
Seems like the vin is from a 74?
Anyway, not so important since I'm not trying to sell car. and since everything matches, it shouldn't be a problem re-registering car. If there was something fishy done- once upon a time - well, that was 25+ years ago.
Scott - Remember, that foglight switch has a secret function (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

All cars had the VIN stamped in the fender.

I bet if you start digging into the fender top, you'll find the original VIN number ...
