Great job Jim!
Send mine just raw aluminum as I am rethinking what I want as a finish. I may just polish the snot out of them! - or plate them - or powdercoat them - or anodize them.... Maybe they won't even go on the car! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) |

Thanks, Brett! I'm aiming to please. =o)
Here's the first one in rough form. Playing with aluminum is a bit different than wood, that's for sure. This one won't be going anywhere, it was for the sole purpose of practicing with the aluminum so the ones that leave will be perfect. =o) More pictures will come as more of them are made. You ought to try putting the 3M emblem tape on the aluminum stock before you mill it or do you think it would tear it up?

You ought to try putting the 3M emblem tape on the aluminum stock before you mill it or do you think it would tear it up? Kevin; It would tear it up, and it would change the distance between one end of the emblem and the other end by too many .001's of an inch to mill evenly. (I gave that idea some thought as well, and vetoed it myself) However, applying the 3m tape afterwords and taking a razor blade to it will work wonders. I need to go back and edit about it not coming with the tape, I realized I can pick it up at cost from NAPA so it would be cheaper for me to do it and more beneficial to you guys that are buying/have bought. |

Here is the 914-6 out of wood. The cheeto's thumb print is going to buff right out. I also need to add the tail back onto the '4'. and that's why I do them out of wood first. the second picture is for the 914-GT modifications. gothspeed, Mark, what do you two think? Should I make a wood one for your twos' approvals? I like it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)!!! |

Getting closer to perfection...
If someone wants to claim this one as is; I can drop it in the mail tomorrow with a piece of sticky tape. (like what McMark linked to, or something very similar) I can get some hi-res pics, too. my mom has a 12mp camera, and I have webserver space to upload to. Attached image(s) |

Hey, by the way; how does the thickness of the material compare to OEM badges?

Don't know how well these would sell, but have you thought about NARP in the same font? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Have you thought of putting some gorilla tape on the back (to keep it square) and throwing it in a ball mill for a few hours? I'd think it'd smooth out the hard edges and polish it up nicely. I've got one I made out of a coffee can, some skate board bearings and an old mixer that works nice for things like this (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif)

rohar, thanks for the tip! I might try polishing up one of the emblems from the practice runs that I've been using to test feed speeds. My parents have a rock polisher that just might do the trick... Thanks! I'll give it a try. =o)

I've got a small foundry in the back yard, the issue comes up a lot (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I've thought about using a rock polisher then I saw the price.
Paint can/coffee can with a piece of allthread through it and a pair of 2x4 blocks for the ends and a mixer from the second hand store did the job. I fill it with some sand and old nuts and bolts for medium. Just vary the ratio of nuts and bolts to sand for "aggressiveness". Ball bearings are wonderful if you come across a good deal. |

SO cool. I was on a V* quest for abit and absolutely would have purchased one if I had found the right car.
Could you knock off the euro"914-6-VW-Porsche" badge? I would think you could sell a pile of those. The current ones in the market are way over priced. Again, great job. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |
