Has anyone ever seen (first hand) the special luggage set designed for the 914? Perry - there were different styles over the years as I recall. I've only seen some of these at Jeff Bowlsby's website, but a buddy of mine back in the 70's got a set for his beloved 911 & couldn't put them in the trunk - just like in the 1st ad, but in the maroon! I offered to take them off his hands since they'd fit fine in my 914! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) .... IIRC they came in this grey, Porsche's maroon, red, black & maybe white or tan, & the Flower Child patterns of the bottom pic. Porsche was playing around with a lot of early name/logo franchising to boost revenue, but didn't charge a lot nor keep control over much of it - as compared to today. Also note "F" above - well we all know how well that worked out in our 914s!!!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) . . Here's another set on the most useless 914 Accessory IMHO ~ I mean who needs a luggage rack when you have 2 trunks with 16.5 cu. ft.!!?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) ... I mean really, have the "old lady" pack less! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) . . Why do I feel like I'll pay for that one!!?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) ... yes dear.....what? All those photos are just regular luggage Tom. I think Perry was referring to the dealership-offered 914 luggage on my accessories webpage, from the Christophorus article.

Thanx Jeff - I thought that was the same as the grey set on the 911 in the pic, like my 911 bud got in the Porsche maroon (odd choice btw, since his 72 911S was black/black & we figured he'd go for black).
So Perry & Jeff, I don't know if his set was the 914 set or another Porsche branded set in maroon - but either way he could only put a small bag in the front boot & 2 larger bags in the back seat area (without blocking the rearview), which left 2 of 5 at home! At this point I can't recall from 75-76 era! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Jeff - the text in the ones from your link below notes "How to pack them in a 911" - so can you post that pic here if you have it? Even if a 911 is OT - it points out yet another advantage of our 914s over the taildraggers! Here are the other pix & info from Jeff's site link above on the luggage, as are most of these I'm posting here for fun! Thanx Jeff! |

Here's one from the August 1975 Camel GT program (Mid-Ohio), where the '75 914 was the pace car.
Interestingly, the only 914 in the race was a six, driven by John Hotchkiss (Pasadena) and Roger Kirby (LA). Can't remember who won, though I'm pretty certain it was a 911s driven by Bob Beasley & Bruce Jennings (yeah, that one). I DO remember that the 9146 in the race scared the crap out of me because he lost it at the end of the back straight, where I was photog'ing. Thankfully, they didn't get to the ARMCO! Okay then, FINE! .... here's some more "rehashes with a twist" & some new ones ....... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) So we've seen this one before, but I want to rename this ad to "The 'Oh Shoot, Now what do we do with the Top?' Porsche" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) ....... because they obviously didn't read the directions in this one from the 73 & several MY sales brochures! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) . . . Okay so it's "The Schusse Porche" or "The Ski Porsche" ..... but who goes skiing in the Alps with the freaking top off!!?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) ... I mean this isn't Sunny SoCal Spring Skiing in Bikinis weather from the pix here!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/huh.gif) . . . The Pace Porsche .... or ... The Race Porsche? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) |

Okay, time for some more ads to liven up good ole O&H-Land!
"The Race Porsche" is also "The Space Porsche" .... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . . The latter ad above usually leads to "The Porsche Questions" which most of us with 914s in frequent use have heard more than once! "Hey - how many trunks does that thing have?" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) ... Ummm, well two! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) . . Which usually leads to: "Well how much can that little car hold?" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) - This particular one usually popped up for me as we unloaded a 3-man dome tent, 2 sleeping bags, pads & cots, 2 ~ 12 qt. coolers, 2 beach chairs, Coleman stove & camp cook gear, lantern, several bags & backpacks, etc., etc. - while on a camp trip in my 73 914-2.0/"914 S" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) . . But those two invariably led to the infamous: "well then, where the heck is the engine in that thang!!??" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/unsure.gif) . . Which then usually requires further explanation of the differences between their cars, Bugs & 911s/912s & "Their Car" with the engine up front! . . Our 914's never cease to amaze the masses when they're seen in action - whether on the road, track or just pleasurable people & gear hauling for vacations or every day use! Porsche+Audi & VW-Porsche played these unique features & advantages up big time, as you can see from the period ads & sales brochure pages posted above. It's also endless giggles & entertainment for we Teeners! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) Hey jsr-jaime - how about you posting some of those cool 914 ads from Japan, that you posted over in the "Legend of the 914 S ...." topic???? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) ... those were pretty cool! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif) Anyone else with vintage 914 ads to post? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) |
