I'm looking for a little better lighting. Does anybody know
if there are HID lights made for the 914's out there that would just plug & play for the orig. Headlamps? Thanks, Jbart |

H4 HID kits are available however, if you install them in a typical 7 inch housing you will blind on comming traffic. Ebay has a parabolic hybrid lens that will fit and has a horizon line. The horizon line is lit below and dark above that line. HID kits are available for just about any lamp type for around $40 pair. Here is an example of the lamp.

Thanks, Jbart Try this source. http://www.hidonlinestore.com/category-s/5.htm The original head lamps were sealed beams. Switch to the H4 Halogen lamp housing then you can adapt to the H4 LED conversion. Good Luck. I got mine from Pelican, using the 55 watt bulbs. At the time they sold the same kit with 100 watt bulbs. I thik you need to add a relay to the system to use the 100 watt bulbs though.

GIANT dark spot right in the middle, I should have just ordered the Sylvania silver stars sealed halogen. |

I bought a few sets with the idea of putting together a group buy, but found they are a real pain in the butt to install, and because our headlights move over time you get blinking, and the unit will kick off. I'l stick to sylvania or other good quality bulb, it'll be allot less hassle in the end.

I got my Hid from a company online. I think it was 944online or 944parts online. It was a plg and play using stock wiring. Low beam only, the highbeams do not work anymore, but the low beams shine 50 millon miles, they are unbelieveable.
I love them. Have never had a blinking out problem. check my blog for pics. |

Just a quick heads up I found on my research for these. You probably do wan tthe HID High/Low, it's usually a few bucks more, I did get a few sets for $85, if you want one, I'll see if I can find one. I had donated a set to the build in OK, it didn't get installed, but maybe whoevrer wound up with it could chime in.

LED lights are problematic.
They should last longer then the car, true. And can be very bright. But they run cool. Which means they do not have the power to melt off snow and ice in crap weather, which further reduces visibility. And they are insane expensive. Zach |

I have been running LED's in offroad vehicles for a couple of years now with no failures. If build correctly, they are pretty sturdy.
Zach, I live in Southern California. Adverse weather is when I have to wear a sweater with my shorts. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I know it won't work for everyone, but it could be great here. |

Also the LEDs only draw 5 amps for the high beams, could be awesome for our old fair-weather cars! Once the prices come down I may think about it, even though I already have H4s.
