Hello everybody !
First of all, as I am a new menber, let me introduce myself, After restoring a 911SC, I bought a 914/4 . After buying, I discover major rust on the body. By chance I know a very clever body worker, and the job is on the way. Last summer, I had the opportunity to buy a 914/, second hand, in very good condition, so I bought it. At the moment, I am having a look at the front brake system, and there is something I do not understad very well. On my PET, the référence for the rotors is 477.405.083A (20mm thick, the same as for the SC) And on the rotors I have on the car, the engraved reference is 901.351.041.16 , 18,5mm thick (my PET says they are for 911 T/E/S) with calipers ATE 245 My questions are : - will the calipers be OK with the rotors 477.405.083A ? - what are the differences between the M,S,A calipers? To answer your questions: Yes, the 20mm rotor will be fine and is what everyone sells for that application. M-Calipers: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.pmbperformance.citymax.com-1110-1288124925.1.jpg) * 48mm Pistons * Steel * Ribe M8 Fasteners (13mm nuts) * AP31 pad size (same as the early 914 front and 914-6 rear) * Side Fluid inlet * 3" mounting ear spacing * 7lbs 6oz without pads S-Caliper: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.pmbperformance.citymax.com-1110-1288124925.2.JPG) * 48mm Pistons * Aluminum * Early units are cast off the 908 caliper casting and are clear anodized. * Later units are a combination of the 910 style nose and 908 rear and are greenish in color due to the dichromate sealant. * AP45T pad size (same as the A-Caliper but the "T" stands for thicker) * Side Fluid inlet * 3.5" mounting ear spacing * 5lbs 6oz without pads A-Caliper: (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/www.pmbperformance.citymax.com-1110-1288124926.3.jpg) * 48mm Pistons * Steel * Ribe M9 Fasteners (14mm nuts but small R6 heads) * AP45 pad size (same as the S-Caliper but not as thick) * Fluid inlet on the bottom of the widows peak in the back * 3.5" mounting ear spacing * Heaviest caliper ever made for a Porsche at 9lbs 4oz without pads.
