except for the need for a radiator - there are many reasons to build this car around a subaru powertrain. I wonder how they're going to direct air through the cooler. It looks like there's not room for the fan, much less the fan housing. I guess it would be upright, but that's not something that should be an afterthought. Type 4 likes to live in a sealed compartment wrapped in tin. Might be a damper on the clean look, cooling the engine Nice though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif) |

I guess it does have the fan housing. I was looking at this one.
(IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads/post-222-1300921483.jpg) But the samba hd some others of the engine (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/images.thesamba.com-11782-1300929920.1.jpg) Obviously at an earlier stage of development there. It does really look to be missing in the first though. |

QUOTE Type 4 likes to live in a sealed compartment wrapped in tin. I was also wondering about cooling. Being in open air instead of an engine compartment can help some, but I'm betting that thing runs hot. I've seen TIVs in custom motorcycles and figured they had a slight chance since at speed you get some airflow because it's in the wind. Behind a firewall though, it's not going to get the forced rapid-velocity airflow it needs. I love the idea of building at Atom clone. But in true form I would be shooting for 300hp like the original. Suby or rotary would rock. Or to get really crazy with insane power.... imagine two Hyabusa engines, one driving each rear wheel. Some creative synching needed, but ooooo.... |

It does look cool! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)
I'm not sure the rear wing actually helps with all the holes in the chassis. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) |

That chickenshit wing needs to be up in the airflow if it is going to be doing anything.

I suppose the non aerodynamic chassis could create some turbulance that affects airspeed back there, but otherwise I don't see what the holes in the chassis would have to do with it? |

That would look cool. Or maybe cut a hole in the bulkhead behind the seats, mesh it over, and duct some "ram air" directly into the fan opening? Hey, its a build it your self car, do what you want! |

I had a phone consultation last week with a person who is building one of these units (or will be very soon). Looks like I'll be designing a 2316cc combo for it using my V2 DTM cooling system and our Evil Twist headers along with a "Raby Sport FIVE" transaxle.
The design has plenty of room for my V2 DTM cooling system. I think 220HP with an RPM range to 7,800 will be a good fit for the chassis. Hell I want one! Whats funny is these pictures showing the twin exiting exhaust system.. I KNOW that engine is losing a minimum of 20HP and tons of efficiency and tuning by not having a proper 4-1 or 4-2-1 collector. Dune Buggy mentality, gotta love it. This post has been edited by Jake Raby: Mar 24 2011, 11:02 AM |
