While I work on my 240Z, I’m struck by how much easier it was to just put a 3.2 Carrera motor in my 914. Nothing is easy. Very little just bolts in.
Some background. I have many options for the driveline. Some put in LS motors. Others put in GTR motors from Japan. I decided to stick with the original L6 in a way. I’m using a 280Z block bored and stocked to 3 liters. I’ll use an L28 intake manifold that has been ExtrudeHoned and a Drive-By-Wire throttle body. The throttle body is almost twice the size of stock and doesn’t just bolt up to the Z manifold. Enter my buddy Rex a machine shop manager and Datsun 510 guy. Check out this adapter he designed and built for me! One side will bolt to the intake while the other bolts up the TB… Attached thumbnail(s) |

Get one of our spec designed 1.625" o/d exhaust headers from Top End Performance. We build these for that company, as the standard 1.50" header (stockish' engines) is a choke point on the stroker engines.

omg.. you love your 914....you should get Yopu something better than a early Rabbit...just sayin.... I remembered this 5~6 year old post from @sixnotfour . Jeff I want you to know, YOPU has a 2024 Lexus 450 something we bought her new. $85K or thereabouts. She’s had it for about 2 years now. I was unaware of how much she drives it. The other day she asked me to drive it to the dealership for scheduled maintenance. I looked at the mileage and it was 6K miles. 6K in two years! At $85K she could have called a f’ing limo every time she leaves the gosh darn house! She changed up everything when Covid hit. Even groceries are delivered. Amazon delivers daily and she meets her financial planning clients at a coffee shop less than a mile from home! She’d be fine with an f’ing early rabbit. She never owned one but… (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) |

Ok, as long as we’re on the subject of daily drivers, I have been stunned by how much value my Tacoma has held on to. Every trip to the dealership for parts results in an assault by the sales manager telling me how much he’d give me in trade. Well, I took his words to heart but I sold it retail to a private party.
Then, I replaced it with this! Macan GTS. What a sweet ride! Attached image(s)

So winter projects…
I need input on these so speak up if you know something. My door handles have ceased operation from the outside. What’s the fix? I want to send my factory seat belts out for rewebbing. Where have you guys gone? Picture for you visual learners. Attached image(s)

Porsche still sells our door handles, I believe they are about $340 each. I have seen restored handles and others that do not function correctly due to the tight tolerances.
As for seatbelts, Seatbelt Planet does a nice job. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

Your door opens from the inside? You likely broke the plastic part that translated the outer handle pull to a push that opens the latch.

We were planning on building our new home in Tahoe Donner ( 1985), but L.A. home purchase used up our finances. We sold our Tahoe lot to the neighbors & they built on it. Now retired , I would definitely love that environment (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/number40_914.jpg) |

Marty, that picture is Mammoth. A little closer to you.
I will give seatbelt planet a try. Thanks. Chris, I have that part new. Mark keeps sending me parts and I keep putting them in a tub of Porsche parts. Time to take the doors apart I guess… (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) |

Ok, so the learning curve was steep, but I managed to learn enough AutoCAD to draw up these gaskets to attach the throttle body spacer to my Z car intake manifold.
I used a Cricut machine I bought used off of Facebook Marketplace. I bought the gasket material at AutoZone. After printing it in paper to check the fit, I printed it on the gasket material. I’d say it’s a success. Might come in handy in custom applications on the 914 too! Attached image(s)

So, once you finish a car, seems like there isn’t much left to post as far as updates. Last Sunday, it won the S2 class in the Sierra Nevada Region Silver State Concours and I got encouraged to come this week to the Monterey Region Concours. I didn’t. Instead, I went to the PCA Open Top Cars and Coffee at Reno Porsche. Oh, and I brought her ‘mini-me.’

It does look nice doesn’t it Rick. I may not use it though. I’m more and more seduced by the sound and look of triple two throat Heritage Jenvey ITB’s. I just have to figure out how to activate all three with one DBW actuator. How is that Z coming? Still coaxing the frame back into shape? |

After winning the car show, or as McMark would put it, the car washing contest, I need a couple of adjustments to confidently drive anywhere. My clutch cable needs adjustment, and I need to bleed the brakes. Currently, though, on vacation in Upstate New York. Anyone in Rochester?
