I see enuf options here for you...

1 - Remove driverseat and sit on the rear seat (I've seen that done)
2 - Open the roof for extra headroom
3 - All of the above...

His arm doesn't quite rest on the roof either, but cool.
Has anyone seen that episode of CHiPs (am I showing my age) were Rosey Greer's car (I think he was driving one of those small hondas from the 70's) brakes down on the highway, he towers over the little car and beginns to rip the doors off. I think that was before he got the second head attached.

Actually, I know a couple of Mini owners who are 6'6"/250lbs or so. There's this weird space-time thing going on with these cars. There's lots more room inside then there appears to be on the outside.

The front seat mounts have three sets of mounting holes, and there are bolt on extensions that allow them to be moved back even more. There are available brackets to allow the steering column to be rotated downwards, so that with the seat all the way back, I can't reach either the pedals or the shifter (but I'm only 5'7"). I'll bet there's more legroom in a Mini set up this way than there is a 914. There's more headroom, as well.

Projects start at about $3K. A car you can drive right away about $6K. A car you can drive and actually looks nice about $9K. Show examples can be north of $15K.

There are several different engines ranging from the 850 (not recommended for anything but in-town use) to the 1275, with lots of specials and engine swaps from other cars (Honda VTEC is popular, but requires body mods). There are very few really stock or original cars out there, engine swaps and swaps of other major parts are so common.

These things are cute, but very crude. If you think a 914 is loud inside, you'll be reaching for the earplugs quickly. They're something of an acquired taste. The newer the car, the more refined and "real car" like it will be. There are a few very late cars (they continued to make these until 2000) available in the US, usually brought in under the table. Official US imports stopped in 1967, and the majority of cars you'll find here were imported later, privately (legally and illegally). Both of mine are Australian imports, brought in within the last 2 years, both pre-65, so both US and CA legal.

FAQs: Swapping from right-hand drive to left-hand drive is quite easy, but getting used to right-hand drive isn't all that difficult. The Cooper is the hot-rod model, and real ones from the early days are very expensive ($25K). It's easy to convert a non-Cooper into a Cooper, so there are a lot of fakes, many represented as real for the obvious reasons. Just about every part you'd ever want is still available new, and there are LOTS of used parts available at lower costs. There are half-dozen shops in and near the Bay Area that specialise in these things.

MOASF is the local club, with a message board and a local classifieds.

Mini Mania has the most active message board, and is one of the more popular parts purveyors. They also have a classifieds section.

Heres a rather extreme Mini van. I had a van that looked much like this, same color and all.

This one, however, has a Honda VTEC engine and running gear and is FAST.

An old Mini is about midway in height between that Elise and the new MINI, and a lot shorter in length than either.
