Hi guys. I posted this in the classifieds section as well but was encouraged to post it in the garage too. I recently helped a friend finish a 1971 conversion where we put a 2.7 in. This car is complete with 5 lug axles, upgraded Bilstein suspension, the works. I'm looking for some advice though. My friend Chuck just passed away from esophageal cancer at the age of 61. As an avid auto enthusiast he had three Porsches to his name when he passed away; a 2010 Boxster, the 1971 914/6 clone that we built, and then his original 1970 914/6. His wife asked me if I would be willing to help her sell the two 914s so of course I said that I would. My question is this...can you guys give me a ballpark for what to be asking for each? I'll have to dig up some more details for everyone on the original 6 but I do know that he ended up pulling the 2.0 stock six that was in there and replaced it with a 3.0 as well as a very built transmission. So again, just looking for some direction on the value of these cars before we move on too far.

Thanks in advance,
Mark

I'm completely computer-tarded. I apologize. I just uploaded photos and made a new post rather than a reply to this one. Let's try this again...

If it works, these are of the real 1970 914/6. In addition, I had people mention the value of documentation. Chuck was, as I stated, extremely meticulous. I have a file folder no less than an inch and a half thick with every sales receipt, service and maintenance record, and part purchased for this car from 1988 to the present as well as the original sales agreement between Chuck and the dealership in Portland that he bought it from.

You'll notice that the rocker panel covers are off in these photos. They are intact and in good order. Chuck had just taken them off one evening when trying to find time to hunt down the oil leak.

And here are photos of the 1971 914-6 clone. You'll notice here as well that the front driver side strut has been removed as mentioned yesterday. And again, the rocker panel covers were off while working on the car and are intact and part of the car. The engine lid is also still here. It was just taken off while tuning to make life less cramped.

Bravo! Nice pictures and two nice cars. That (original) 914-6 is loaded with some nice goodies. Both cars are very nice and I hope that they go to someone who will appreciate all the work that has been put into them. It goes without saying that I would love to see them remain here in the U.S. Best wishes and thanks for the pictures. Nice job.

Have a BBQ and invite the clan for a build party. These cars need to be road worthy again before they are put on the market.

My uncle suggested the same thing yesterday while talking to him. He's an avid 914 owner himself. I have to talk it over with Gail but I would love to do exactly that and have these beautiful cars driving before going up for sale. The hardest thing is that I'm not too tied into the 914 world yet. It's hard to ask for help from people you barely know.

Good pictures, with some work both cars could be knockouts. 914 clean-party would totally be doable in the PNW, lots of active members up there.

A couple of cool cars, and it will be nice to see them back on the road!

Just my two cents, but a couple of quick ways to raise desirability and thus maximize value for the widow:

-Swap Fuchs to the original 914-6
-Swap black bumpers to the original 914-6
-Consider swapping engine lids, or doing a GT-style engine lid on the real 914-6
-Get yellow part of floor covered up (while still being up front about color change)
-Get rockers back on and get the cars outside for photos.

Basically, I'd do whatever I could to make the real six as nice and as factory looking as I could without going past the low-hanging fruit (see above). The real money is in that car, and it seems like people looking for real 914-6s want either stock or factory-looking cars — while the 71 hot rod is open season, so bring on the BBSs, the 916 bumpers, etc. etc.!

GLWS! Nice of you to do this for her! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Best,

pete

The speedometer in the picture is not for any 914. It shows 6 digits for the odometer and a push button for setting the trip odometer. Look in your friends stash of parts to see if you can find the real one with 5 digits and without the push button going through the glass face.
Again, good luck.

We have the original. It's in the Clone since we put the 2.0L from the 6 into it originally then went with the 2.7L

I think that your fellow PNW 914er in Kent just offered! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

This group on here in general has done that for several others that I've seen, it's just a matter of getting the time, space, parts & other logistics set up.

PS - I agree with the others - get all of the original -6 stuff back in it (or available to put back in, such as the 2.0-6 motor); & put the custom, aftermarket & non-OE stuff in the clone.

After seeing the pictures, I'd say to expect far less than some of the earlier numbers that were thrown out...

May be best to let the market decide on these, meaning ebay, after some cleaning and fixing...

Also, check the back of those fuchs on the clone, they may be a clone as well.
