Top ten ways to tell you are in Bakersfield:
1. You have to explain to company from out of town what animal a "Tri-tip" comes from. 2. Drivers think a red traffic light is just a suggestion. 3. You think 6 tons of crushed rock makes a beautiful yard. 4. You notice your car overheating before you start it. 5. You no longer associate bridges or rivers with water. 6. You discover in July it only takes 2 fingers to drive your car. 7. You can make sun tea instantly. 8. You run your air conditioner in the middle of winter so you can use your fireplace. 9. People with black cars and upolstery are assumed to be from out of town. 10. You notice the best parking places are determined by shade instead of distance. |

all i remember about bakersfield was the dead mummified cat right next to the swimming pool at the hotel and the semi-cute waitress at the ihop who told us "THE" place to hang out was the rockin-rodeo ...

Most of my Mom's sisters migrated to California from Oklahoma, one of which ended up in Bakersfield. I remember the shock the 1'st time we visited from Seattle and I burned my feet getting out of our truck in a parking lot.
Never a more apt named town. Is there a town just down the way named Blastfurnace ? Neal |

A Tri Tip is about the most perfect cut of beef to BBQ. Not sure, but think it's the bottom part of a sirloin. Kinda triangular when trimmed. WCC 2005 will feature same. And I thought all the jokes were Fresno. Anyone remember that short lived TV show? Yes, it's our Fargo. |

Tri Tip was made famous in Santa Maria Ca. not Bakersfield. It used to be a low cost cut of meat like Brisket untell the Famous Santa Maria Marninated barbeque became the hotest thing on the west coast. Now everybody features it and it is expensive as a good cut of steak

It was filmed ABOUT modesto, it was FILMED in and around Santa Rosa.
It was about Cruzing McHenry.. Which is now deemed Illegal in modesto... Doesnt stop us from making one run up and down every saturday night or so. Although it DOes come alive with ricers and hot rodders around 12pm... Asside from that, no one is ever cruzing anymore.. (Darn rules) Andrew |

Hey guys, "Tri-tip" is actually from the central coast. It is really called a triangle tip roast by the butchers. It couldn't even be found south past Ventura or north past Paso Robles until about '80. But it is probably one of the best B-B-Q meats around as long as you know how to cook it. Slow and Easy with plenty of (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

Hey Head,
Sent you a pm on the location for The Wizard. How do you tell if you are from B-Field? If your idea of a nice front yard has the crushed rock and at least three project trucks put up on cinder blocks. "I'm just waiting for my big tires to come from Pep Boy's!" JT |
