I am (very slowly (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) ) developing fuel injection system to my 3.0L six. I will use Finnish Hestec motormanagement system with direct ignition and three hall sensors.

With direct ignition the distributor of the car is left unused. So, I could put one sensor in the distributor and the rest two to the flywheel.

If one of the sensors is put in the dizzy, the dizzy need to be complitely re-build. All old plates, springs, cap and points will be removed. As a matter of fact, only body and axle is needed from the original distibutor. Now I would like to build my first prototype, but I don´t want to disturbe my current distributor. If I buy an extra one, should it be from SC engine too or can I use some old 2,7L dizzy ??

I think I have hear that some old engine blocks have smaller diameter of the shaft. Could somebody give me more information about this ?? Does 3.0 and 2.7 or 2.4 engine blocks have the same diameter of the distributor shaft and are the distributor bodys interchangeable in that way ??

Any ideas ?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/boldblue.gif)

The 3.0 distributors are unique, and spin the other way from all the other 911 distributors. I believe that the drive gears are the same, though, and the mounting scheme is also the same. I have heard that someone did try the 2.7 dizzy in a 3.0 and wound up with quite odd problems with the advance curve....

Timo,

You can use the 2.7 dizzy. Dave pointed out the advance curve issue which shouldnt be a problem for you since it is computer controlled and the computer is just looking for the refence signal.

My question for you: why 3 sensors ?? The factory cars 3.2/3.6 only use one sensor for ignition. We only use one sensor to fire twin plug engines. Just curious why they use 3.

Thanks Dave. You did answer my question when you told some have tried 2,7 dizzy in a 3.0. Thats what I wanted to hear, the original dizzy can physically be replaced with older one.

You understoond me right B. I know the rotation issue. Thats no problem.

But, why 3 sensors ?? I don´t know. I have to find out. I know you need only 2 sensors if you don´t use the direct ignition. But, if you want to use the Hestec motormanagement system with the direct ignition, you need to add the third hall sensor.

ummm Kim...you could have hit the link Timo posted for us to use (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Since Kim missed this link and I'm sure others have, how about changing the color of the link instead of it being underlined and in bold??

When you make it fool proof, we find better fools. That's where I come in.

Timo's link could have been flashing at me, and I still would have missed it. Actually, if it were flashing, I'd have missed it for sure! (I've learned my lesson tho, and will click anything that is underlined!)
