This is the left side of the dash in my son's 70. It doesn't match the 72 or the 74. What is suppost to go in the hole? I can't find a pic of this part of the car anywhere.

B,
If you would like to see how Porsche equipped the dashboard troughout the production years, you could read pp. 62-63 of Brett Johnson's "914 and 914-6 Porsche; a restorer's guide to authenticity." I consider this book a valuable source of information regarding 914 originality. The book shows the wiper knob on the right side of the steering column. The question then remains where the rear window defrost knob should be, but since your car doesn't have a one, it's easily solved... In your photo, the "button" on the right is off-set superiorly. This position fits the hole for the ignition switch in sixes, now probably used for something else (for instance a car alarm LED or, indeed, a rear window defrost knob). 914 greetings, Anton |
