Keys and Sax

Big into jazz in HS... Recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz award in 1984 but that was a long time ago.

Now I enjoy jamming with my brother inlaws who play bass and guitar and drums and harmonica.

Pretty intense jam sessions!

QUOTE(Black22 @ Nov 18 2011, 04:51 PM) *

Started out at age 6 on an accordion...yeah I know...insert jokes here (. ).

Then went to guitar and bass at 10. I've been playing for 29 years. Been in bands, produced and my biggest love that I retired from in 2008 was being a sound engineer.

I've recorded dialog for film and TV and all sorts of music from Hollywood to Japan. Hell I've pretty much done everything the world of sound offers.

I just picked up a ukulele after a year of not touching a stringed instrument!

Still have my collection of favorite guitars. A 72 Gibson ES-335, a Les Paul, Gibson J-30 acoustic, American Deluxe Fender Strat and a Fender P/J Bass. Not to mention all my recording rigs and mic's.

Why did I retire? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)......Oh yeah, I got tired of working at a studio where Brittany Spears frequents! Today's music is CRAP!!

I like Blues, Rock and Hard Rock.

Your name sounds familiar to me and we appear to be close in age. Were you ever running around/involved at M.I. in 1987-88?

Songwriter since the 70's. Mostly country/folk these days, but passed thru a lot of different styles.
Guitar, 6 & 12 string, but never a real love for the instrument, even tho I have a bunch of them, and built a few cool electrics.
Engineered & produced for a few local artists/bands, live & studio.
Taught Songwriting for many years.
Never was fortunate enough to do it as a career, just now getting back into writing after a 15 year layoff.

I'm not a musician by any stretch, but I own and occasionally attempt to play a handful of guitars. I have always loved guitars, cars, and watches. They are all mechanical art to me. I really wish that I had either the gift for music, or the time it takes to practice if you don't have the gift. An old roommate of mine could pick up just about any instrument that he didn't know, play with it for 5 minutes and be making music in 10. It drove me crazy.

Oh, and I used to run the sound board for a neighborhood band, which was a lot of fun until a couple of them became male divas.

Playing Tenor and Alto Sax, started playing in 1963 school bands rock band on weekends then Navy Band stopped playing in mid 70's but kept my horns. started playing again a year ago and pretty much picked up where I left off to my amazement. Some things you love stick with you I guess, plus if you really love it and want it you can find a way. I play mostly Jazz, and Contemporary stuff. Love the blues such as Cry Me A River, Misty....wife is my best audiance, says I'm pretty good but I'm happy to just play weather anybody is listening or not. Good food for the Soul. I've owned my horns for over forty years and my Alto is vintage 1920's.
Thanks for the Thread.....love talking cars and music. Yes I'm OLD, I guess.

There should be an addendum to this thread. How many musicians here also work in the IT business.
I went to college hoping to get a Bachelor of Arts in music but ended up working in a show band on a cruise ship. After realizing I couldn't do this forever I went back to school and got into computers. I'm amazed at how many of my musician pals (that didn't make it in music) ended up in IT of some sort. Seems to go together some how. Oh, none of them were into cars... except Trekkor.

"are they providing meals?"
"my feet hurt"
"who is that kid in the golf cart with Spencer? Does he have any food?"

infrequently, and I play a mean "Fun Bag Rag", when I get a chance.

Never went to MI. I went to CRAS. I went at the end of my career to prove the that I could kick the crap out of latest crop of rap "producers". Graduated top of my class with a 4.0GPA! Those guys got nothin' on me! Lol

I don't know Kevin. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) His last name sounds familiar for some reason so I Googled him. I saw he did a TV deal for Britney Spears.

The closest I ever came to mixing Film/TV to music was when I was working at Conway Studios while Peter Mokran mixed a DVD for a Christina Aguilera.
