Played in the Mid-Atlantic quite a bit in the '70's .... good times. Did a little studio work but mostly played in clubs. Biggest thing back then was opening for the Grass Roots. Only played bass live and sang a lot of lead. We did a bunch of originals but also covered some Little Feat, Van Morrison, Taj Mahal even some Cab Calloway ... via Reffer Man!!
Wrote and still write songs on guitar and keyboards although I really don't play either one. I like to think of my songs as kind of a Funk 'n Roll although they can take on anything from a folk flavor all the way to hard rock. Played and wrote some Christian Rock/Gospel in the early 80's for about 5 years. Started playing live again in the 90's with a project called Khanfusion. I think I'm only on the first CD, not sure. I'm doing some vocals there. Played at venues ranging from the Bayou, Birchmere and others. There's one appearance at Channel 5 on the Innerface Records web site, but I didn't make that one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif). I'm beginning to record some of those songs I wished I recorded years ago. Some were kinda very localized "hits" in the club scene, although no airplay. Currenly playing a Squire by Fender MB-4 with Jazz bass-like head stock (haven't seen another one) a Squire by Fender Stratocaster, Samich OM-15CE acoustic and a Kawai K-4. Sold my "real" instruments some years ago (Gibson Les Paul Special, Guild B-301 Bass). I have a nice library of originals I'm going to put down to leave my kids with something so they can see the most inner thoughts and artistic side of their dad. Sorry to ramble on but I'm VERY passionate about music ... especially my own compositions. On the road in the 70's ![]() Even back then, I knew the value of duct tape ![]() Crappy photo at the Bayou in D.C. playing keyboards/vocals ![]() ![]() |

That looks like one sweet Strat!!! Vintage 60's???? 3-tone sunburst, rosewood fretboard, 3-ply pickguard attached with 11 screws makes 1960 and up . . and the pre-CBS headstock makes it 1965 or below. Or it's one beaten up reissue. Or if you want to drop mega-thousands the Fender Custom Shop will make you one just like it. |

I like to strum that 6 string music with this....

Here's a couple of my guitars, now if I could just play good. I have a Taylor 615ce, Ibanez bass and Peavey TKO amp, a small PA, a killer set of Pearl drums, and a good practice room.
Here's my recent score, a '81 Aria ProII (love those Matsumoku guitars) ![]() My precious (don't look, no don't even look at it) a '78 Gibson RD Artist ![]() |

Drummer here! I've been playing since I was eight and spent many years on the road before I one day walked away for several years to "clean up" Recently started playing again and it feels great to get back on stage but this time I'll stick to beer and limited road work. I have a 40 year old money pit which seems as expensive as any addiction I've kicked.

The new entryway mix... 72 Strat Alder Hardtail Special Run Memphis 335 Goldtop 66 Tele Custom. Also alder with Maple Onlay (after they decided they weren't going to do skunk stripes... maple was a special order) The Tele is my fav. Sweet. Now here's a question; your Telecaster (my favourite model BTW - love the double bound body) was it not officially called the Custom Telecaster vs. the Telecaster Custom (the version with the humbucker at the neck)? |

Prior to 72, they were indeed "Custom Telecasters" as you see there, distinguished by the binding.
That said, for years people have referred to as "Tele Customs" (myself included obviously) but yes, officially they are different. Good eye. Attached thumbnail(s) ![]() |

I fricken love gear!
Y'all have some really cool guitars. That sunburst strat is amazing. My first kit was a 68 slingerland. I bought it for 35.00 in 1977. I restored it about two years ago and it now resides up above the fireplace in our family room (house had these crazy big "cubbies" - worked out great). In 1981 I bought my first brand new kit - a Pearl. I have been a fan ever since. Have owned several other brands in my past, but always end up back on a pearl kit. I saved and saved for custom birdseye maple rootbeer fade DW kit in 1995. I was in the drum shop 4 monthes later just looking around and sat down behind a "low-end" Pearl ELX and was shocked at how much better the kick drum sounded compared to my DW. Put the DW up for sale that day. While I own several kits my other manfacturers, I will only play live on a Pearl (unless a show is backlined - but I have my trusty roll of black stage tape to fix that). Here are some in my current stash. I primarily play the green masterworks kit and the recently built up white "Tommy Lee" kit (it has a 32" kick! Ha!) Post more gear!! Love it! This is the one that got away. A CZX from the hair band days. I need to find another one - just not sure where I would put it or what I would do with it..... not to mention it would not have any of the memories attached to it either.
This is my kit - sitting in our local shop on consignment in 1998-9 or so. I think once it was all said and done, I ended up getting less than a grand for it. Makes me sick. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/barf.gif) Attached image(s) ![]() |

I'm getting ready to release a new CD here in the next 6 months, just finishing up production work. Kind of a Lindsey Buckingham meets Green Day meets John Prine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/blink.gif) But until that's done, here's a link to my old metal band (and some songs) from the 90's that an indi label heard about and decided to rerelease. Even though I do like Teles, I find fenders to be pretty boring (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) However, they seem to almost play themselves since they play so easy.

Odd... I'm a Fender guy and I find a Strat one of the most difficult guitars to play (well). You really have to muscle the shit out of it to get it to talk back.

Over the years I owned too much to remember, but my favorites were the Hohner "Jack" bass (steinberger) in the picture of me and a Gibson L6S. Both I let go of and will always regret. Right now I have an Ibanez roadstar bass and a Hartley Peavey signatuire goldtop. I use a traynor bass amp now but I always used Fender BXR 300 to do gigs. I also threw in a pic of our CD cover from 1999. It was played on local radio a few times here in Sacramento. I miss performing live every time I see a band playing. My wife says I should start playing again. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/idea.gif)

Thnaks Mike. I finally pulled my set out of my parents house and took pictures of it to sell 2 weeks go and now I'm having second thoughts (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif) Damn I miss playing (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) I need some new kitty litter boxes (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Scott, that masterworks kit........ (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wub.gif) I started out with a Tama swingstar, never had the dough to upgrade but that Pearl sound can't be beat. If I ever start playing again I want to get a Pearl MCX

I don't consider myself a "musician" but I have been trying to play guitar most of my life. The only bar I play is the one in my house. That's where I keep my gear.
I'm glad to see other people are gear drunk too. I just pulled the trigger on a Lester last night so it makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only junkie. I made a deal for an 05 Gibson LP Standard Faded. However, mostly I'm a Strat guy. Originally I picked up the MIJ (Fujigen) Epi Elitist goldtop to explore the dark side. Its easily comparable to Gibson quality. And in some ways surpasses it, at least at the entry to average Gibson pricepoints. Strat on the left is my 57/62 hybrid. It has an NLA genuine Fender made replacement 57 body with an 82 Fender JV 62 reissue slab board neck (no skunk stripe). The other Strat is a 95 plus deluxe. (Good to see the other Strat plus players here.) Also you can see my prized Fender Vibroverb Custom amp with Cesar Diaz SRV mods. That amp has no practical purpose for me. Its way more than I need, but I love when the house is empty and that thing is on 7! The 2nd pic is the LP Standard Faded I haven't even received yet. I guess the Epi has convinced me that LP's can coexist with Strats. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/stones.gif) I have others, but these are the nicest. BTW Scott, I love the Vistalites. A friend of mine has the same Bonham set. ![]() ![]() |
