Gutted my distributor and put all parts back together using another dizzy housing in an effort to get rid of the squeaking. Project was successful (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)
In the process of setting the timing, found out my distributor cap was not functioning correctly - as I revved the engine, the timing light was not strobing. Swapped out with an extra cap and good to go (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

One question; Why did you leave the torsion bar covers in place? The bolts I can understand, so that you don't gum up the threads, but the covers?

Yeah, I need to carve out some inside space for a few more cars before winter kicks in ... it's supposed to be a wet one this season (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)
