QUOTE(76-914 @ Feb 26 2017, 10:56 AM) *

Hit the Ortega yesterday. Could not have timed it better. I hit "The Slot" both ways. I felt as if I were the only one on it. Spent a few $$$ with the Candy Store since they were one of the local business' hurt by last month's road closure. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

I've always wanted to drive the Ortega Hwy in my 914. I used to
Live in SoCal and we'd dive up from Del Mar to Mountainbike the San Juan trail. All the way up that long ass climb we'd here nothing but sport bikes and sports cars flying up and down that road. I drove an old Mercedes back then which drove like a tank. Not quite exhilarating!

Have fun taking advantage of that beautiful road.

Dropped of my car at the shop today to have Forrest's engine dropped in place of my original 1.8L. It will be nice to see what happens when I have an extra 50+ HP added (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)
Forrest, Thanks for all your help. Glad we could keep it all local

Advance is the issue with Type 4. Your guys at Autobahn know what they are doing based on their experience with Vision..Motorsports..... That motor has propelled me to many an event in rain, snow, sleet and Hell Fire on the open freeway / with this motley bunch of car club posers (that's for euro911 with a stable of million's worth of project in need of ..."just a tweeK here and there.. and the very few that know how to keep the oil topped up in a Type 4 (Larmo...) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Lots of fuel filters in line to carbs. Not sure how FI eliminates that need / maybe 70 pounds of fuel pressure verses 2.5-5.... don't know but keep the gas clean.

As to that engine going forward, I have the experience of keeping the oil clean and firing it up and driving it at its limits.

Flagstaff RT 66 / I driving rain and in snow with no rain hats. No problem.

Well, ...one problem. I was freezing my butt off with really cool "heat delete" while my pal Larmo was cruising along and way in front of (his "pal" / not like Blue 6 Pals...) but the engine performed to get me there.

Of course we got to the hotel three hours prior to check-in so Larmo and I found the local Porsche garage,.... a Bar call Flingers or something,.. wait, I digress...

Have fun with my trusty engine and call or PM with install if needed / your guys at Autobahn know what they are doing.

Phoenix Club this weekend (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

With the spotty weather conditions, I've been taking care of a bunch of other small projects that have been waiting in the wings.

Converted a pull-start generator to electric start. (I'm getting too old to be fussing with manual labor) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

Attached Image

... Finishing up a restoration on one of the little Honda mini-trail bikes ... still have new handlebars and seat to install on this one

Attached Image

Also, (yeah, call me nuts), a neighbor gave me an old rusty Razor E-300 electric scooter and I've been tinkering with it this past week as well. Took it all apart, blasted off all the rust, primed and painted everything. It's almost ready to reassemble. This will be a nice little pit-putt when it's done ... and will easily fit in the trunk of a 911, 912, or a 914 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

In any event, with much nicer weather on the way, looking forward to dedicating some time to getting the old German car projects back on track. (Thanks for bring that to my attention, Forrest) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)

QUOTE(fixer34 @ Feb 19 2017, 04:28 PM) *

Pulled the fuel tank sensor and using tips from here, determined that it is indeed not working correctly. Gets to 1/4 level and stops there. Note to self (and others); if in doubt, always trust the warning light.

Made sure I had a half-tank of gas, pulled the top, and took her out for a little drive. Third week of February in Chicago, and it is sunny, clear, and 67 degrees....

And the icing on the cake; my trip odo which hasn't been reset in at least 20 years, hit this.

There's a thread on this site for that photo

Went to Smoky Mtn region's Great Porsche Show Off. As usual, plenty of nice Porsches from a trio of 356s to a Cayman GT4 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/drooley.gif)

Three 914s made it to the event but several 914 owners were there without their 914 (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

Sunny and just warm enough for a top-off drive home along the back roads.

GREAT DAY!

It was 11 degrees outside yesterday morning and never got above 19 so I left the car alone.
