Stock tray with Optima battery.

Thanks for the pic - looks like a great fit with the factory rain tray, which I will be using. What size optima did you go with...and is that an "R" (reversed terminals) model? Finally, did you have to order that hold down bracket separately?

I hope to pick one up this week and I have read varying opinions on which one to get.

It's a model 34. No R anywhere. It's what High Performance House had for sale. I don't know if the terminals are in the reversed position. It comes with the bracket.

Just ordered an Optima 34R (to bring the terminals inboard a bit) for $122 with free shipping. I did have to pay sales tax.

From what I can tell, thats a pretty good deal.

Check out this link if you are in the market:

Comon Bob, only 1 battery (IMG:style_emoticons/default/rolleyes.gif)

First of all, you need to buy the biggest battery you can. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

then, you need to put a second one (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I will be in the market for an AM/FM MP3 sound system that can use the stock altermator and only one battery. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Is the tray replacement doable witht the engine in the car?

I just got the parts and removed the old, but not sure I can get the space to weld in the new.

Anyone doe this?

Resurrecting an old thread...

Was 3" the official measurement from the leading edge of the battery tray to the firewall WITHOUT a factory pad (just metal to metal)?

Does anybody have a factory-installed tray that could be measured just once more because I'm anal?

Here is a reassuring photo from my 1973 1.7 without the insulation pad in place:
