So I came across this while looking at another thread on Pelican. I've seen the scissor lift's before. I've been scrolling Craigslist for the last year or so for one. While in the other thread there was a link to Harbor freight. scissor lift With one of their 20% off coupons that get's it down to $800. That is very reasonable.

So my question is who has one? Can you pull your motor with one without interference? What are the pro's & cons of them?

Old thread I am reviving as I finally am buying one

Yes I have one and love it! Best chocie if you don't have the head room for a two post lift. No problem pulling the motor, only issue is clearing over the top of the lift. I bought mine from Greg Smith equipment in Indy. Its a 6000lb lift so I can put the truck on it also if I wanted to. Gets the car 45 inches in teh air, while I can't walk under I am able to use a rolling stool. Mine was about $1500 wit tax, sure wish I would have bough tthis sooner. I followed another members plans for making ramps and it works great. Here is my project car on my lift.

I bought my Ammco scissor used off Craigslist for $800.00 best tool I've ever purchased as far as I'm concerned. Made installing the six in my 914 a piece of cake. I ended up recessing mine into the floor.

Hey Guys...

Like Jamie Im wondering about the Harbor Freight one specifically...pros and cons...Any help would be great....And I know, Harbor Freight quality isnt the best but its not like Im using this for work. Plus I think they offer an extended warranty thing too...

To be honest I didn't look at the HF one. I would say things to look for is to make sure it has a safety lock. With mine you hold the safety handle while you rasie the lift. Once at the height you want you release the handle and lower it (maybe 1/4 inch) until it settles into the locked position. Also stability, I was able to got to the Greg Smith business location and try the lift out. Also make sure that the location you plan to use it on is level. One last thing is these things are heavy! While they are "portable" I sure as heck wouldn't want to try and drag it around the garage all the time. Mine is at 1klbs so you need a (IMG:style_emoticons/default/bootyshake.gif) to move it around. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

I went on the low end and found a tire chief on CL...about $350 I can do most repairs and there is room also to drop the motor.

I like mine alot. It only goes up 48 inches but as you can see my ceiling won't allow much higher than that anyway. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Nope did it myself. Marked out the cut line with a sharpie pen and then rented a wet saw from H.D. and went to town. I rented the biggest they had which was a good thing because the concrete was 6-8 inches thick. Then rented a electric jackhammer and busted it up. Placed some rebar in and then made a floating form. Called a concrete company to come and pour/level/finish. Came out great but I will NEVER do that again.........hard work !!! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Slits is going to be mad but I picked up a used 6000lb mid-rise lift in his neck of the woods, Crestline, last year for $200. I scored big time. Its at a friends shop in Gardena so I get to use it whenever I need it. I'm thinking about bringing it down to my place in Orange and keeping it in my mfg shop.

Found a snap on 3500lb scissor lift. It is about 12 years old & everything works great. Guy wants $900 for it & I am waiting for full size pics in my email. Supposed to get them in an hour or so. Should I not jump on it? Oh it lifts up to 35"

35" lift and 3500 capacity isn't very much. I know it's a Snap-On, but it think I'd keep looking.

I know 3500 lbs isn't alot. It is enough for any 914 though (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) . Although Harbor freight has one right at a grand. I guess $900 isn't that great a deal

I bought mine about three years ago from Quality Tool and Equipment. 42660 Rio Nedo, Temecula, Ca.
951-296-3860. 48 inch rise and 6000lb limit. I paid $1000 for it. Shopping around just now, I couldn't find one for less than $1500. Try to find one that rises at least 48 inches and 6000 lbs. I don't think you would be happy with anything less. Good luck.
Cheers, Elliot
