Found a snap on 3500lb scissor lift. It is about 12 years old & everything works great. Guy wants $900 for it & I am waiting for full size pics in my email. Supposed to get them in an hour or so. Should I not jump on it? Oh it lifts up to 35"

You should tell him you will give him $600. I don't care if it is Snap-on. It is used and you can get a new lift for $800. So you are not being rude in offering that at all (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Yeah I am going to pass. Unless he makes me a deal I can't refuse. I am going to buy a nice lift. Even if I have to sell my enclosed trailer to do it. I found a good little tilt trailer to haul my cars on. So my enclosed trailer is an extra luxury. I would sure as hell get more use out of a lift. I may just be putting my Enclosed trailer up for sale. I could buy a new lift no problem then.

Here is a pic of the lift

So after considering selling my enclosed trailer. I decided it was a good idea. I will get so much more use out of the lift. I listed it last night on Craigslist & here. Sold it to the first guy who called on it. Kinda bummed to have sold it (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) . Although I only have a deposit. It being the weekend they didn't have all the cash. I get it monday after work. Which works just fine as I called about my brand new lift. It is made by Quality lifts & will run me $1750 delivered & setup. Here are the specs

6000 lb. Mid-Rise Lift
Lifting Capacity: 6,000 lb.
Rise Height: 53 1/4"
Length Overall: 7' 10"
Width Overall: 39 1/2"
Minimum Collapsed Height: 5 1/2"
Pad Height: 7 3/4" - 56"
Hydraulic Hose: 12'
Safety Lock Positions (7): 23 7/8", 30", 35 1/2", 40 1/2", 45", 48 1/8", 53 1/4"
Electric Motor: 1 HP
Voltage: 115v
Speed of Rise: 45 sec
Min Bay Size: 10' x 22'

You'll be happy

I see minimum colapsed height is 5 1/2"

My car is 4 1/2". Would have to build ramps

Do other lifts need ramps? Kelty how is yours?

Not a highjack just wondering (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Not to worry Dave. That was taken right after installing the floor. Trust me, it doesn't quite look like that any longer. That plastic flooring is great if you're only going to park a car on it. If you are actually going to work in the garage...Not quite so good. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/laugh.gif)

Cheers, Elliot

Yeah I kind of figured I'd need some ramps. No biggie there. I'm renting my place now. So until I buy a place I'm not going to put it in the floor. I can't wait to get it. I was cursing all day today jacking my car up & down. Just thinking how nice it will be when I get the lift. It is going to be sweet to have (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Just a word of caution as I found this out the hard way....

When these companies rate their lifts at 48" that is the full lift height off the ground with all attachments installed. Sounds great huh? Well that's not actual lift, you have to subtract the amount of height when it's collapsed (with all the attachments on) and that might be 8 inches to give you an actual lift of 40". It's a really crappy way to rate them. You need to ask how much actual "hydraulic lift" they have. That means the actual MOVEMENT upward and that is far less than the specs. Unfortunately 80% of the companies can't even tell you that spec or understand it.

After learning the hard way I bought a nice Bend Pak SP-7 with a 6 foot lift and sunk it in the concrete. Here are two pics on top of the concrete and then after I sunk it. It's an awesome lift that you can stand under, not crawl under. I'm getting too old for that crawling routine.

Now, that is a lift. And, a great installation. How do you keep your garage so clean?

It's easy, I take the photos after I clean it.....the rest of the time it's cluttered with some kind of project. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

Okay Reviving this older thread. I didn't end up buying one last time around. I am buying a Bend Pak MD-6XP this saturday. It is a year old & the guy bought a 2 post lift for his shop instead. I am buying it for $1200 & it's about $1800 new without freight. I've been watching for quite a while & for a good quality lift. This looks to be a good price. I went away from the harbor freight lift. While I like to buy the random tool there that I don't use every day. The thought of putting myself under one of their lifts was (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif) for any length of time. I will get some picks up as soon as I get back. I'll need to make some ramps to sit on the sides. At least until it is in the air

Wow, looks great Jamie. The black thing in the pic - does it come with it's own compressor, so you don't have to use shop air to run it?

Yeah it runs off 110 even. That also is it's little dolly for moving it around. I am way stoked to get it. I'm even picking up a 914 on the same run (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Yes I have one and love it! Best chocie if you don't have the head room for a two post lift. No problem pulling the motor, only issue is clearing over the top of the lift. I bought mine from Greg Smith equipment in Indy. Its a 6000lb lift so I can put the truck on it also if I wanted to. Gets the car 45 inches in teh air, while I can't walk under I am able to use a rolling stool. Mine was about $1500 wit tax, sure wish I would have bough tthis sooner. I followed another members plans for making ramps and it works great. Here is my project car on my lift.

I believe that the quote on the tag line is attributed to George Carlin.

I am chomping at the bit! Heading up to pick up my lift tomorrow. Not to mention another 914 while I am out (IMG:style_emoticons/default/evilgrin.gif) . IT will make for a nicely loaded trailer on the way home (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)
