The Bosch SR86X has a higher rating than stock. Kennedy Engineered Products sells one that they make themselves....all new parts instead of the Bosch remans.

Pricey though...

Hi Tim,

I just got an IMI hi-torque starter from a guy who sells on : www.thesamba.com in the classifieds, do a search for Serrano. It works a lot better than the stock 914 unit. I did have to stretch a hump in the trunk floor to make it fit though. I did not weigh it, but it is smaller, and I think lighter as well. It was $180 delivered. Good luck!

That's funny. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

"Stretching a hump" may seem like no big deal to you but to us non metal benders, its a problem.

Maybe I'll cut a hole instead.

Um.. JOHN... all you have to do is re-clock the starter. We do it all the time. Pull the bolts out of the adapter on the front and re-clock the mount. NO need for metal shaping.

I use the IMI Hi Torque.

Hi Brad,

Well duh! Shit, I guess metal stretching is on my mind to the exclusion of the painfully bleeding obvious! Thanks for making me feel like an idiot (insert sheepish yet smily emoticon).

Why do you need a hi-torque for a 9 elebin? I bought a 1.5 hp from Oklahoma Foriegn for $ 50.00 out right. They have an over stock and want to move some of them.

One of the mfgrs of the "lightweight, gear reduction" is R&B Performance. It is a Nippondenso with a different nose. I've got a call into him to see if he will sell outright to the club. More tomorrow!

See Fiids thread. There was some info about hi torque starters.

How about Paragon-products. Have you asked them. Somebody recommended them long time ago and they should have hi torque starters. See this link.

Ok, for you club members, I have talked to Ron at RB Performance. He will sell the hi-torques to club members at $150.00 each. Contact information:

RB Performance
521 W. 11st
Parker, AZ 85344
(928) 669-6411
Ronald Cooke

He takes the gear reduction starter and machines a new nose for it. So, there ya go.

Wasn't there an issue of the "too cheap to be true" ebay starters not fulley disengaging the flywheel without adding a custom spacer? Seems like I remember that from an earlier thread.
