Broken Shifter Cable. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/headbang.gif)
At the EXACT location / situation the Clutch Cable broke on Elvira 5+ years ago. Shifting from Reverse to First, to back into my parking spot in the garage at work.

They will be replacing with Stock, not the Numeric Cables.

JP, I see an unfortunate affinity that your cars have for tow trucks.

While I was out chasing down parts with Cairo94507's brother Bob,
I get a message from Michael that my car is being impounded
For improper registration.
Swell.

Fortunately - it was just Micael taking advantage of a photo-op.

Somehow seeing all of you pathetic 914 owners get towed makes me feel better about being one of the worst offenders (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif)

This was one of several tows with the current ride and one of many more from a lifetime of owning teeners. I've starting putting together a survival list of things for my trunk like:
* extra throttle cable
*battery cables
*battery jump box
*Garmin life support device
*water bottle
*prepared speech to explain to my wife why I broke down again
*ski mask so nobody recognizes me on the side of the road
*a bible, candles, holy water, and prayer shawl

The 4th gearbox is now in the truck. While that might make you think the truck has a million miles, it doesn't, 167,000.

Our GMC Envoy is 240,000 miles and I still pull a trailer with it. It has spent it's whole life pulling trailers with various old cars on it. It started the day it rolled off the showroom lot. My father had to buy it when their SUV got hit in North Platte. Luckily the trailer was undamaged.

However, it is on it's third transmission. The new one was rebuilt by Monster transmission,and I have an external cooler I added to it to keep the heat down. I highly recommend Monster Transmission for GM auto transmission rebuilds.

A good flatbed ride......
Drove it for 8 months. 2.0 with D-jet.
Slowly had more and
more d-jet issues - and more and more unreliable.
Parked Sept 2024 and zero attempt to resolve it.

Because something else was in the pipeline.

I could not be happier to see HB's car moving into the 6 conversion phase with steel flares. That is a fresh SS 3.2, twin-plugged and done right. That car is going to scream. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smilie_pokal.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

I have finally joined the type of 914 owner that is those who have been towed… less than 20,000 miles of semi-daily driving to and from schools (~5 years) and the rebuilt engine has the dreaded clattering of internal engine death.

Crossing my fingers as we dig deeper and learn more but scared a new engine might be in my future(wallet might not like it but opportunity to try my hand at building an engine???)

@NotLance

Sorry to hear that. If need arises, I have two 2.0 engines in the garage at our family house in Berkeley. I had plans to put one of them in my 1.8, but realistically I have too many other projects to get to. One of them is reportedly rebuilt and came with a nearly finished project car that another member bought for a -6 conversion. It is has all the tin and injection components. The other is complete as well, but not rebuilt. It was also pulled out of a project car that was undergoing a -6 conversion. That car had been sitting for a while so the running status of this engine is unknown. Feel free to reach out for more information if you find your engine is not salvageable. I hope that's not the case... Good luck!

Ugh, just happened to me. Belt is still on the alternator but volts just kept dropping as I took an evening drive. I do have a new alternator on hand, with all tin powder coated, proper bolts, new wiring harness and voltage regulator ready to drop in.

And sticky Potenza tires helped it stick to the upside down tow truck. Why can’t I ever get pictures to post right side up???

Fixed it…the picture that is.
