Just read this 5 year thread from beginning to end. Michael you my friend have the most patience I have ever seen. But I guess perfection is worth the wait....... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Hope our 914-6s can meet someday...

(IMG:style_emoticons/default/agree.gif) We never hear from Scotty anymore. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) I hope all is well w/him. Has he had some issues w/his back and had to take time off or did you guy's run into other problems? I'm sure this six is going to be spectacular when it is finished. Back, lack of a good full time helper at the shop, other stuff...
Not on here much because he's got tons of other stuff and work taking up his time.

If anyone knows a good person in the paint/bodywork trade, send them Scotty's way. If he had 2 people with his detail eye it would be able to work on as many projects as there are people who want him working on their projects.

Thanks Bill. Yeah I think they will look good. I am having them finished stock. Although recently I have been looking at the RSR finish and scratching my head.....
Remember, this is how they started:

I may have these guys ( Fuchs Restoration ) do my wheels for my 86 targa when it comes back from engine work. The RSR look is sweet!

Thanks guys. Yeah, Scotty has been busy. That's just what happens. Hopefully we are now back on track and will hit the 2017 completion target.

Man, I really like the RSR finish, but I want the car to look stock, especially since it is remaining narrow bodied. What do you guys think about the RSR finish on an otherwise essentially stock bodied Six? My wife actually just voted for the RSR finish......

Yes, there have been a couple years of health and employee issues, but as of right now the backlog of work is almost done ( except for one small job ) I am looking to have 2 big resto jobs that came in around the same time as Michaels car gone by the end of April and will be back on Michaels car pretty heavy.

As we started with, stripped and polished to go to the platers, and the pile after it came back, then 5 hours later of sorting (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wacko.gif)

Harvey sent one of the wheels out so I could test fit the spindles for a 19mm drop. Without actually having it on the car and full weight on the suspension I am concerned enough about clearance I am dropping two sets. One at 17 and one at 19. This way when everything is together and on the ground, if the 19's don't clear well, I can just swap out for the 17mm struts.

Scotty - how much work do you do on the parts before they go to the platers?

a LOT. I stripped everything in an acid bath, then run through two different tumbling processes. The first is a wet messy solution to clean any pitting out, and further neutralize the acid bath and begin the smoothing/polishing. That mess then has to be rinsed clean and dried, then it goes into dry media for the polishing.

It's only worth the hassle for irreplaceable pieces like latches etc. I won't be doing this on nuts and bolts in the future unless it is a very picky job that requires original head stampings.

Having done this all the way through, and seen the price from the platers, it is WAY cheaper to just buy all new nuts and bolts. Latches, backing plates etc will still have to be done

I'll take, and put up, a few pics later this week of some of Michaels individual pieces to see how awesome everything turned out. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Michael had a set of deep sixes he sent to Harvey to get them widened on the backside so we can get some rubber under there (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Very cool/trick wheels. Is that R offset or even more than that?
Custom wheel offsets are very neat to have a stock look with more tire!

Thanks a lot Scotty for taking the time to post these update photos. I appreciate it.

Also, those are factory deep six wheels. The front of the rim remains stock. The 1" widening was done on the rear of the wheel to keep the stock look on the front. They will now all be anodized like stock to keep the illusion of a mostly stock appearance.

I had to have the hockey puck horn for my steering wheel. It just looks so cool. Again, I deviated from stock, but just a smidge.
