Is there a pin that holds the float? I thinks that's what they are referring to

That makes sense. If the float were allowed to move in transit it could easily be damaged.

There is no visible pin and the float is movable. It was packed for shipment in a tube with foam rings to hold it safely.

I think the warning sticker is bogus.

Your probably right, but did you check behind the sticker? Shipping rods and pins are very common, especially with washing machines.

Nope...nada!
Think VDO is messing with me. There is NO "safety pin" anywhere. Under the warning label is as smooth as the rest. Putting it in as is, with the exception of the warning label.
