Consider throwing down some pex pipe before the pour. Heated floors are very nice

Won't need it for the added space, it's mainly for tractor storage, and parts storage, so the main shop area stays more open and uncluttered (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) but that's the plan.
Besides, scroll back.....I already have a rock'n shop heater, plus I live in California.....it doesn't get cold here. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif)

Not to be that guy but I hope you plan on putting post under all that beam you just built! I see it on the double plate but you should at least throw a 4x post in yeah? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/shades.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif)
Don't worry I'm still coming to help (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)
See you in... About seven hours. I better go to bed

Are you planning a support here? The beam looks nice if you glued the box but supporting it on a single header is likely a bad idea.

Nice space (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif)

Geez guys, give me a break, I barely got it up yesterday, (im old ya know) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) it's not finished yet.
And yes eventually there will be a post to the foundation, but for you worry warts, the beam and the load it carries is not as heavy as you might think......it's not going anywhere.

Concrete arrived on time at 6:30 this morning, Eric showed up with two of his kids, so we didn't have to work as hard. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif)

Erics friend Wendell is awesome, he pretty much did everthing once the concrete was on the ground, and it turned out great. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/first.gif)

By 9:30 it was poured and finished. Thanks Wendell and Eric!

Now time to get the 914 cleaned up and ready to drive to Capitola tomorrow. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) ......... Maybe after a nap, I am supposed to be on vacation.

Sunday Morning I drove to Capitola (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif) and spent the day with my Dad.

I stayed over and Monday we went out on his boat and did some fishing.
Brought back 10 decent rock cod. Then a nice drive home. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/driving.gif)

Took off early from work on Friday and got the second beam built.

Attached Image

This morning I went out before it got hot and started putting up the second beam.

Attached Image

Unfortunately I didn't finish before it got hot, but I got it done. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

Both beams up, really opens it up.

Attached Image

Still have to finish supporting them, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/poke.gif) but now I can start framing the wall between the two spaces, and frame the door opening for a roll up door.
Well that wore me out so now its time to grab a beer, (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) lay on the couch, and fall asleep watching golf. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/yellowsleep[1].gif)

More to come,
Jeff

Well my trip is done, time to get back to working on the shop. Been working close to home, so took off early thursday and friday and got some walls framed for the addition on the side of the shop.

Still have a few things left to be finished with the walls, then start framing the roof so I can get the metal on. Working on it this weekend and next, and after work during the week I should be able to have it closed in soon, then just the inside to finish off.
Be nice to finally get it done.

They work well if you have the space, these were calculated with just nailing the plywood on....but I used lots of glue, stronger is always better.

Well I worked after work every day this week and got the roof framed and ready for metal.

Attached Image

Got off today, stretched out a vapor barrier, and got the metal on the roof. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif)

Attached Image

So now my shop has 24' X 48' of covered space. Now i need to get the windows in so I can start closing in the walls. Then I have all winter to finish off the inside.

Got the roof on just in time......rain forcasted for tomorrow. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)

Looking great bud! Hard to beat having space to work on your teener out of the elements. Although you are in CA so I guess you just need to get out of the heat (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

Thanks Jamie, the day after I put the roof on it poured rain all day. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/w00t.gif)
Glad the roof was done.

Ended up taking most of this week off to get more done on the shop. Got the windows in and the siding on, framed the opening for my roll up door, and framed an opening between the shop and the storage area.

Attached Image

Yesterday I started moving everything out of the main shop area.

Attached Image

Attached Image

Today I'm going to finish moving and cleaning up......then bring in the two post lift and get it installed. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif) the scissor lift has been handy....but can't wait to have the two post usable.

Cleaned up ready for the lift. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/piratenanner.gif)

Attached Image

Should probably finish the outside trim and get it ready for paint....but installing the lift sounds like more fun.

Thanks, after working in a 2 car garage, with the washer/dryer, wife and dogs in and out......this is going to be like paradise, all the extra room, and lift is really going to make it more enjoyable to work on my projects.

Getting the lift off the trailer into the shop wasn't too bad. The HF car dollies came in handy.

Attached Image

One post up......one to go

Attached Image

Both up and in place, they barely fit between the beams....but they fit. Thats why I had such a hard time finding the right two post lift, most were too wide, thats why when I found this one for a good price I had to jump on it....Thanks again Jim.

Attached Image

Still need to drill the holes and bolt it down, then run the electrical. Should get that done tomorrow....then it will be functional. Thanks Rob, it's really starting to come together. Exciting times. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Your right Michael, just the little I have used the scissor lift makes me wonder why I waited so long, used ones can be found cheap.....there's really no excuse.
I've spent way more money on less useful things....makes you think....what was I thinking....all that crawling around. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif)

What does a lift like that go for new or used these days? Your shop looks nice.
