.......or maybe we could stop trying to turn a 914 into another Porsche and just respect it for the PORSCHE IT IS.
So many of these cars have been hacked to pieces trying to make them look like something else. Are you not here because you're a 914 guy? If you want a 908, then save up and buy one. Leave your poor, increasingly-rare 914 alone....please. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) |

Ok! But your car is stock? Not at all. Everyone knows that I modify the shit out of 914s. However, at the heart of every project I do is a 914, and I don't try to obfuscate its heritage. In the end, it's obviously your decision to make. I'm merely pointing out that these cars are becoming more rare. As I get older, I find myself less inclined to do something totally radical with a still-viable chassis. There are certainly some who think I'm screwing up cars that could be returned to totally stock /4 status. We all have our lines. Mechanically, I will only use Porsche/Audi/VW engines and parts. Why? That's just what feels right to me. And aesthetically, I want my cars to look like 914s so the 911 guys will have no doubt from whom the spanking came. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/happy11.gif) Have fun with your project. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) |

I know of a 914 based rebody here in TX. Fairly accurate. I am building the engine for it early next year.
It is not the short 908/3. But the longer 908/2. Like this. (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/uploads_offsite/files.conceptcarz.com-10736-1354300112.1.jpg) I personally like the 908/3. What a car that must have been to drive in anger. So light. So nimble. So fast. |

Keep posting pictures of the build! Is your tube chassis similar to the original 908 design? I have a blueprint of a 906 with all the tubes. It looks like it would be fun to build. John |

We went through 3 pages of ugly "Will a 914 make a cool 908?" pictures and questions and all along you had a tube frame Subie version in the works? And this was an exercise in... ??? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) Why not just start out with; "Hey gang, here's a cool Subie powered 908/3 I'm building... follow along!" Thanks Fourblader, you can see the work over on LocostUSA.com under 908-3 Sti.
As for the trying to use the 914. It was just another way to look at. And to the point of "there will be no sanctioning bodies that will allow it to race." N.A.S.A. have looked over the plans and have said they will find a class for the car. Safety inspection by S.C.C.A. chassie is (per the plans) good to go but motor is to big= no class. Eric-shea, = not cool. |
