A case of dyslexia, they put a 5 instead of a 2. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

I think 2 is right. All 4's are 47 then x (year) 29 then xxxxx (the production number)

According to lapuwali
QUOTE(lapuwali @ May 30 2006, 01:48 PM) *

For a 914-4, the VIN will be 47Y29XXXXX. 47 is the type number. Y is the model year: 0=1970, 6=1976. 29 means it was built by Karmann (all were). The last 5 digits is the serial number.

The '29' is supposed to mean that it was made at Karmann. The system seems to no longer be in use though. It wwould be cool if there was another factory that completed it, factory 59. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

Maybe true, but that's the system for the production of 914's. Musta been punched after Fritz had lunch (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beer3.gif) (... what the heck, maybe after breakfast... Even in the US Army in Germany it was two BEERS for lunch. Beer was 15 cents a 1/2 liter. We're not talking Lite Beer either.

That might make it worth more, like misprinted currency!
