Full Version: Am I seein' this VIN correctly?
A case of dyslexia, they put a 5 instead of a 2. 
even that wouldnt help. it should be a 4 right?
I think 2 is right. All 4's are 47 then x (year) 29 then xxxxx (the production number)
Shoot. I need to brush up on my VIN decoding.

For a 914-4, the VIN will be 47Y29XXXXX. 47 is the type number. Y is the model year: 0=1970, 6=1976. 29 means it was built by Karmann (all were). The last 5 digits is the serial number.
The '29' is supposed to mean that it was made at Karmann. The system seems to no longer be in use though. It wwould be cool if there was another factory that completed it, factory 59.

Maybe true, but that's the system for the production of 914's. Musta been punched after Fritz had lunch

Does this VIN match the VIN stamped into the passenger front fender ?

It was the 70's
Even in the US Army in Germany it was two BEERS for lunch. Beer was 15 cents a 1/2 liter. We're not talking Lite Beer either.
