Yeah the wheels appear to be a 5 stud version
of our familiar gasburners. Campagnalo? |

Where in the world are these wheels available? It looks like there's a pristine set here,,, http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=1534407 |

You or I would really have to desire that look. Somewhere here I linked to a YT of the 80's Isdera which had a similar looking wheelset. More of a MB look.Still very nice. |

Latest ebay rate for the wheels? Where in the world are these wheels available? Search on "mahle gas burner wheels" and you'll find them. The real ones are pretty spendy--they're the lightest street wheels ever put on any Porsche, to my knowledge. They were only made in 5.5x15, and are a magnesium alloy. The Bug guys like them; the 5x130mm pattern fits many of the 5-lug Bugs. They like to paint the flat part black and polish the raised bits. There are replicas available now (much heavier, made out of aluminum, quality is unknown) for less than the real thing. Chances are decent that the ones on The Samba are the repops. --DD |

Uhhhhhhh, Dave? There aren't any VWs that use a 5x130 bolt pattern. Not bugs, which used the 5 bolt pattern like the early 356 before they went to the same 4x130 lug pattern as the 914. Not Busses/Vanagons, either. Late model 5 bolt cars are 5x100.
The nickname "gas burner" started with the wheels being discussed here. They bear a pretty good resemblance to a burner on some gas ranges. The Mahle 4 bolt wheels picked up the term later on. The Cap'n |

I converted my fastback to 5 lug Porsche pattern with Fuchs over 20 years ago (still have it). |

Shoot, I thought one of the two five-lug patterns they used was 5x130.
I learned something new today! --DD |

Actually, I was a bit off in my statement. The Touareg, the smart and thrifty person's Cayenne, uses the 5x130 Porsche bolt pattern. But who cares about trucks? Old Buicks are close to 5x130, too. The Bus/Vanagon uses 5x112.
