I've always assumed it's mag and doubt Porsche would have introduced bi-metallic corrosion otherwise. But I've been wrong once or twice.

I have seen welding done to it before. Must be aluminum.

Weld it anyway... Either nothing will happen or you will have a spectacular light show (make sure to pour water on it for more effect)... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Weldable. I have extra brackets on mine. Even the mag case is weld able if your good. I have custom machine work and welding on my case also.
