Finding flares that flows with the 914 lines is hard. Personally I think the GT flares look a bit too much like fenders of a US dually pick up (IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif)

That they do ... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

But i have to say, the stock GT flares have been growing on me over the years. Interestingly enough at about the same rate that the 916 look has grown uglier.

I agree, the biggest reason they are so widely used and accepted, is because they are factory design with a racing heritage. that and they do have a fairly good proportion that suits the rest of the body.

I do like the flares jim kelly posted. They are awesome but IMO slightly over the top for street use, but perfect for track use (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Not that they're much of a flare, but I get 225's on 8" rim under them.

Flares by BFH (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) and a big ol' pry bar... (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smash.gif)

Awesome! What tire profile and wheel diameter on those 225s? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/popcorn[1].gif)

225/45-15 Hoosiers on 15x8 wheels with 4-7/8" backspacing.

Only very minor rubbing at full lock or full suspension load.

I have, in my imaginary plan to finish the car, an idea to go to 15x10's and run the big ol' 275's. But the reality of the project says "HA!" (IMG:style_emoticons/default/lol-2.gif) , and I think that I'll be on 225's for a while once (if) I get it running again.

Cool! Thanks for the info (IMG:style_emoticons/default/beerchug.gif) !! IMO 225s are plenty wide in the rear (it is what 80s era 911 Carreras ran stock (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) ) ...... I will be running slightly widened GT flares and will be running the same 225 width (probably 225/45-16) ...... the fact you fit 225s into a narrow body is fantastic ... I'm running 225s front and 275s rear. You can make em fit with 9 inch fenders but its tight. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/aktion035.gif)

That's why I wanted input on different styles- the GT flared look boxy but on some cars they look better than on others, almost like the color makes a difference. And it does, but it shouldn't. A body style should look good and balanced whatever the color. I want to do 225s and 245s, maybe even 265s and have it look like it was designed that way.

I wonder if Ford Escort Mk1 Zakspeed arches would look good?

My neighbor gave me a cd with a bunch of vintage Porsches running Laguna back in the 70s. I like the look of these flares. Only time I have ever seen this type.

Nice!

That was Bill Cuddy's car. It was an ex-Ginther car. How do I know? I worked on it for several years. It was sold when he acquired an ex Roy Woods McLaren 8E and then highly modified but I don't have a picture of it in it's present state.

I've been looking at the flares on the early 70's Camaros from Motion Performance too. They're kind of a bubble flare, almost what you see on the back of the Singer 911 creations and that may look good with the squared off fender lines we have.
