QUOTE(scotty b @ Dec 7 2013, 08:01 AM) *

Well at least his death is marketable. I saw a commercial yesterday where Universal is announcing they will give a portion of F&F 6 sales to Pauls charity. A whopping 2% from the article I read. Classy move (IMG:style_emoticons/default/dry.gif)

I read 10%, but they're probably counting on higher sales of the DVD with this development. Hope it does some good. He also had a charity org. (maybe the same one) for the Haiti Hurricane victims- more than what most of us have done to help those in need...

They are thinking the "Bot Dots" caused the car to hydroplane;

We've learned the experts have told the family ... a car going speeds approaching 90 MPH will lose traction after hitting a series of Botts' Dots. It's akin to driving on ice -- and control is further compromised by the fact that the Porsche was outfitted with special racing tires that have very little tread.

And there's this ... Porsche sent out a memo to dealers back in 2004, warning about control problems with the Carrera GT, saying, "This vehicle cannot drive over a Foster Beer can that is lying on its side. It will crush the can and damage the carbon fiber under panels," adding, "You need to be aware of what type of road surface you are on (dips, pot holes, seam heights, etc.)."

1202_carrera_gt_launch_tmz
Law enforcement sources say they have not concluded the exact cause of the accident, but it appears they're looking at the Botts' Dots ... as a viable theory for triggering the fatal crash.

Part of my job when I worked in construction, a LONG time ago, was to glue those things down. Frankly operating a shovel was more fun, and possibly even easier. PITA.

Bott's Dots are raised reflective disks that are glued to the freeway intending to give an audible and tactile warning to California drivers when they drift out of their lanes. This is what allows California drivers to text, eat, put on make-up, and read the paper while driving. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/av-943.gif)
They are extremely annoying for sports cars with stiff suspensions. So much so that someday I plan on finding the grave of Bott, the traffic engineer who inventing them and pissing on it! (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif)

That looks a lot like Mulholland Hwy. There's a hairpin turn famous for crashed motorcycles, if that indeed is it? If you walk the outsdie of that turn, you'll find all sorts of broken pieces of plastic bodywork, mirrors, etc. in the dirt.

Two men just died recently. One is a young actor who dies in a car crash that probably shouldn't have happened. The other changed the course of an entire country. Which one is noticed with 8 pages on this site? Maybe if the other one had died in a Porsche?? (IMG:style_emoticons/default/confused24.gif) (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Yet another reason to leave and stay away from this state. Do not even THINK of moving here. Even the freeways are treacherous. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif)

Well, Paul was fun to watch in movies, but I would not agree that his body of work changed an entire country....that may be a bit of a stretch.

So, oh retired dude,
Did you go check out the site for a hose?

Well... Technically, he was serving a life sentence for trying to violently overthrow his own country. He never would have gotten out of prison if his country wasn't already changing. True, he did pick up the reigns and oversee his countries climb out of apartheid, but he wasn't the saint he is being held up to be anymore than Paul Walker is the greatest actor that ever lived. He came out of prison confused. He thought that the world hadn't changed in the decades he was in prison. Understandable considering the isolation he suffered in prison. He came out railing against colonialism. Colonialism that no longer existed. His greatest accomplishment was overcoming his own anger for the sake of his country and inspiring others not to take revenge.
Paul Walker is getting the attention here because he was a car guy who made car movies and died in a Porsche. Mandela doesn't have that relevance here...
