Whoops, found some more pics from a few years ago at our old store. This would be a IMS replacement. I usually only take pictures for warranty claims to document the work performed. Of course according to our wonderful arrogant friend, the dealerships aren't smart enough or competent enough to do these and only one person on earth can. Oh well. My bad.

Very cool, thanks for sharing / educating the masses. My high school friend that been turning wrenches as a Master Tech at local Porsche site's mentioned some of these big mistakes by PAG. Last week, he updated me on a CGT that was in for service and mentioned what some of the parts "cost".-(IMG:style_emoticons/default/sad.gif) |

Woody, I've had Jake on my "ignore" list for years now. It's made my internet experience a lot more pleasant, more productive, and I swear it's lowered by blood pressure by 20 points. Just an idea....

I thought Jake exiled himself from this foresaken place... That was doing too many people a favor.. had to come back and have some more fun :-) Hell, as the result of this thread I may just own a 914 again for the first time in almost a decade! Post up if you need any advice for an engine. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/call me.gif) |

Probably true...it is true. Option? Yes on some cars and unfortunately, " standard" on others.- those are the ones that were bent over with Porsche Advertising of race condition capability and longevity. I have their brochures to back up my posting. .......don't believe every thing you read and hear. Ah, 396, sorry, that was easy to misread. My comment was in response to Len's about building an engine that can 200k track miles. I have heard of a few PCCB issues already in my short time in PCA and dealing with Porsches. They were standard on Boxster and Cayman "S"s, right? |

They were standard on Boxster and Cayman "S"s, right? Starting with Gen1 PCCB, they were a 10k option ( when you order the car..replacement per rotor is almost 9k )and standard on late 2002 GT2 on. Gen 1 had some thing like 600 strands of carbon. If I recall, once the temps on the rotor hit> 1200 degrees, they started to brake down. I think Gen 2 went to 3500 strands. Most track junkies replace PCCB cars with iron rotors. Woody the resident Porsche Master Tech might know. |

PCCBs out of the box will outlast iron disks 3-1 with better brake feel and bite. Yes this applies to track use as well. The thing with the PCCBs though is for track use Porsche recommends a different pad compound which is less friendly on the street. These pads are available through Porsche Motorsports and not a regularly stocked item in a dealership parts department. I have a customer with a track only 997/2 Turbo S. 24,000 miles. Been through 3 sets of front pads still running the original rotors and 6 sets of rear pads with one set of rear rotors. He replaces tires every two or three events. He has an instructor license. The reason he goes through rear pads quicker than the fronts is because he runs with the stability control on which is possibly the worst thing you can do to a set of brakes. He loves his PCCBs and his 991 GT3 that is being built is slated for them as well.

The 997/2 uses the Gen 2 and up PCCB vs Gen 1. Based on what little that I do know, PSM on the track is not good for your brakes. Oh, he must have a deeeeep pocket to be able to replace those rear rotors. If I recall, fronts pads are like $500-700/ set. Thanks |

Completely different manufacturer as well. I can agree that the first gen may have had issues to the uniformed. The second gen is much better. Guess we will see how the third gen plays out. They sure are pretty though. |
