We are going to remove the tranny while the car is on a hoist, up 6' in the air. The plan is to support the engine with a 6' ladder. The rating of the ladders is close to the weight of the enngine.
I'm going to cut a 2 x 6 or 4 x4 to support the engine; the board will be bolted to the top of the ladder. Question is :how wide should that board be ? |

Hahaha
It will only touch one small point, so cover the top of the ladder. Sounds like a crazy way to do it, maybe look at a way to hold the motor up from above by running a 4*4 across the engine bay and bolt a chain to the upper case bolt at the rear, sling that chain around the wood beam....done. |

You can hold the engine with one hand if the engine bar is in place....
Just put towels under the wood beam. |
