We are going to remove the tranny while the car is on a hoist, up 6' in the air. The plan is to support the engine with a 6' ladder. The rating of the ladders is close to the weight of the enngine.
I'm going to cut a 2 x 6 or 4 x4 to support the engine; the board will be bolted to the top of the ladder.
Question is :how wide should that board be ?

Hahaha
It will only touch one small point, so cover the top of the ladder.
Sounds like a crazy way to do it, maybe look at a way to hold the motor up from above by running a 4*4 across the engine bay and bolt a chain to the upper case bolt at the rear, sling that chain around the wood beam....done.

You can hold the engine with one hand if the engine bar is in place....
Just put towels under the wood beam.
