Beautiful but how much 914 is required to still call it a 914? (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/confused24.gif) I see about 30% of the sheet metal...

Nice pics. Thanks a lot Paul.
I'm not real sure what to do with this thing. I like the idea of your spyderGT. That may be an option. I've never owned a 914 Spyder. I wish I had the ability and/or the $ to build a Spyder similar to the Brumos car on my avatar. What a sweet ride. Maybe a 914 Spyder GT in Jagermesiter livery? Attached image(s) |

Depends on the sanctioning body of the particular race. I believe that PCA Zone 7 requires you to keep the door frames, the front inner fenders up to the shock mounting points, the floor pan of the cockpit, and something behind the cockpit which is escaping me at the moment. I remember that they got kinda peeved at B for that silver car, because instead of being a set of tubes built on a 914 chassis as a foundation, that car was first built as a tube-framer and then had the requisite 914 sheet metal added in after the fact... (Hey, if it conforms to the letter of the rules, why not let him run???) --DD |

I agree. All these tube cars are neat but looking at these pictures it seems that Roger's stands miles above the rest IMHO. For example check out the trailing arm design with solid bearings at the swing-mount and toe/camber adjustments on the hub. The whole car looks like it came out of a factory program. Awesome. What type of tubing is used?
Any links to online places where you can purchase the necessary tubing to create the tube frame? I'm very interested in making (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/welder.gif) something like this but wonder what the associated cost is? |

I've bought from these guys before: EMJ Metals in Hayward.
Fremont Steel might be able to help as well and might have some DOM in stock. For both (and most) places, you need to know what you are asking for, you just cannot show up and and ask for "roll cage" material (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/smile.gif) The hardest part of a nice cage is being able to bend it.... |

Correction: the hardest part is designing it so it is JUST meets the minimum weight requirements and is strong enough so there is no flex. Knowing how to weld helps too (IMG:http://www.914world.com/bbs2/html/emoticons/welder.gif) |
